Hooray! That's a lot cheaper than needing a new computer!

Thanks for all of the response....Sorry I hadn't replied....I didn't get email alerts from this post for some reason.... So I mixed down to the Tascam.....Two problems I encountered: In order to get enough signal, I had to run it through the preamps of my board (Studiomaster 16x16x2).....I ran from ...

I often limit myself on number of takes....If I don't limit myself to 4 or 5 guitar solos, I am just going to play all day and then have a bunch of takes to edit....adding more time..... I often tell people you only get a few shots at this, and people tend to perform better under pressure....sometim...

Transferring Digital Mixes to Analog

I want to experiment with transferring mixes on to a 1/2 inch tascam 38 I have. I am thinking specifically of connecting from the stereo outs which I use for monitoring in to tracks 1 and 2 of the recorder, then recording the tracks back into the computer for mastering. Does anyone on here have expe...

I usually track with 6....Often similar to this:

Kick
Snare top
Snare bottom
Floor tom
OH/Room (behind the drummer, to his hi hat side, high up)
Room....(maybe 12ft away in front of kit)

I usually get plenty of rack from the OH and Room....

also, not using condensor mics on drums REALLY helps. ribbons and dynamics all the way.
Now that you mention it, it was the condenser mic I use as a room mic that was giving me trouble.....the ribbon was fine....good point.....

I cut drums today too and this posting was a big help.... I was ready to post my results and you beat me to it.... Kick - positive Snare top - positive Snare bottom - inverted tom - inverted (and that was the most obvious difference when I flipped back and forth....) OH - inverted Room - positive Pr...

57's can pretty much work on anything in a pinch.....Next time someone asks "If you could only have one mic...." suprise and say a 57 and I bet you can make a pretty good argument out of it....

For the question above about bleed....Does your mic pre have a low end roll off? That should help right away....plus you can roll it off more with your eq in the mix.....but bleed CAN be great.....

Mixing today, I inverted the polarity on the snare channels as suggested.....sounded much better when the polarity was reversed on the bottom mic.....Just that made it so much better.... The way I understand phase is that when you use 2 or more mics, you need to have the sound waves reach those mics...

That's killer info because I never counted on having any phase issues since the kick and tom mics were close miced, and the room mics were a good distance away...I never thought of the different sounds being out of phase against each other......I'll try flipping the phase on the snares in mixdown on...

Thanks man.....You described what I like about the bottom mic better than I did....the depth is what I love about it....I mix it fairly low in the track as well.....When I take it out though, somethings missing.....Both the phasing and using a darker sounding mic like the 421 are great ideas.....I a...

Had some awesome results with a stand up bass, acoustic guitar and vox in a tile floor room by using just an NT2 on omni setting and finding the best place in the room and going live to one track...Basically let the great sounding room do most of the mixing....Probably had higher ceilings (12 feet) ...

I feel where you're coming from.....My drummer can't always control his ride sound and it was kills me.....I've used the deesser, but found the compression trick a bit better.....have you tried using a small amount of gating? I've found that to work too.....All of those have done well for me.....the...
