Teac 3340 question: occasional trouble getting reels turning

I've got a Teac 3340 that occasionally has trouble getting the reels turning after rewinding and then stopping. I've adjusted the brakes to make sure they weren't rubbing. Also made sure the back tension is within limits. The reels turn very smoothly with no resistance normally. Just sometimes after...

Re: Compressor decision help!

Thanks for all the great replies, I hadn't heard of the Symetrix stuff, I will definately check it out, I'm interested in a compressor that smooths things out a little. So what is the difference between the 160x and the 160xt? Any more reviews on the RNC? Thanks!

Compressor decision help!

I am looking to buy a fairly inexpensive ($300+or-) compressor primarily for vocals and acoustic guitar. I've considered a DBX 160A but it sounds like those are better for bass and drums. Has anyone used one for vocals or acoustic guitar? What other compressors do people like? Thanks!

Cheap Vintage Microphones

No, sorry, I'm not selling any... but I was thinking about buying a couple of vintage microphones just to have a few more sounds at my disposal. Has anyone out there used any of the Astatics or any other broadcast type microphones? If so, what model and can you try to describe the characteristics? T...

Re: Compessor Plug-ins, any preferences?

I've been using the UAD-1 stuff for a while now and find myself using them all the time. They are a good compliment to the Wave's compressors. I would highly recommend them if you can afford it.

Re: Rode Mics

I did a direct comparison between the NTK and a Studio Projects C1 ($199). The NTK was warmer and smoother, especially on acoustic guitar. I ended up keeping the C1 because it was a little better for my vocals which are somewhat nasaly, not to mention it was $300 cheaper. With a little bit of EQ I c...

Re: Strangest Studio Techniques U Ever Used?

I put a mike inside and next to a shoe box and played it with brushes, got a great mellow, jazzy snare sound.

Re: to rent out a home studio or not?

David, the answer to your question is , YES, absolutely, do it. Everything about it will be a fantastic learning experience. You'll learn about recording, how to run a business and how to deal with people (which can be the most interesting part!) Start out slow. don't invest too much money in rentin...

Re: computer hardware/software recording question

I use a an M-Audio Delta 1010 with Cubase SX and have had absolutlely no problems. Ultimataly I would like to get something with better D/A converters like a Apogee Rosetta, but there is a huge price jump there. The 66 is good choice if you don't need to many inputs/outputs.

Reel to Reel recommendations?

I'm sure this question pops up a lot and I apologize if many of you have been through this before but I am looking to buy a reel to reel to supplement my digital system. Mainly I would like something to record tracks to (sometimes in stereo) and then dump them into Cubase SX for mixing, etc. I don't...

Re: Analog semi-pro going to PC DAW- suggestions?

My set up is an M-Audio Delta 1010 and Cubase SX running on a PC and I have been very satisfied with both. But if you can afford something with higher quality converters such as the Apogee Rosetta, by all means do so. The converters in the 1010 are probably comparable to the Mbox but not as good as ...
