I can recommend UltraPhones by some guy at gk-music.com. He basicly takes those large industrial isolation phones and stuffs the elements from Sony MDR-7506 I think. They sounds pretty nice and have tons of isolation. However, I have been thinking of getting the Beyerdynamic DT 770M's (also sold as ...

Re: Upgrading overheads?

I too am looking to upgrade my overheads from a pair MXL's - some 990's I want to get a nice pair of Oktava Mk012's as they seem so recmended and certainly cheaper than most. However I keep seeing people calling them 100 a pair mics etc. At one time Guitar Center was almost giving them away but now ...

Re: Drummers... another stupid qestion.

Thats an easy question.. Well to me.. Just tighten up your action (springs) The harder it is to push the less able you will be to do it. Also by positioning the drum farther from you, it will require it to be more of an ankle action than a hip action. I have noticed that people who tend to really sl...

Re: Favorite mics for recording tom-tom's?

I just did a test with 4 Mics for myself. I have a large kit with 6 Toms so I had been using 3 Rode NT1's positioned between the toms. This had been working pretty well, but had too much cymbal bleed at times. I tested: Audix F-90 condensor - Crapola (maybe it was bad?) Shure Beta 980/S Condenser - ...

Re: What's so hype about Monster Cable?

So are all saying your would buy Monster Cable first then Mogami then Canare then..... I'm just curious what people's real preferences are. In switching from a Blue Kiwi cable to a regular "Low Noise" mic cable i noticed less highs. However I found "the sound" more even and appealing for that usage....

Re: What are people using for Track Sheets For DAW Recording

I use a combination of short hand notes taken in a composition notebook, and for some projects I will also use "standard" track sheets. Some good discussion here, as well as a link to some freeware. all the best -Darrill Thanks.. :) I have used some analogX software and never noticed that little pr...

What are people using for Track Sheets For DAW Recording?

Hi I decided I wanted to make myself up a Track Sheet for keeping track of recordings. However since I am using a DAW / Computer, the concept of "tracks" are etherial and can expand and disapear, I found it difficult to lay one out. What are people using/doing for their track sheets? Any suggestions...

Re: I hate all the reverb plugs or hardware I have ever hear

I know it might be on the more expensive side (not free) but.. Has anyone tried the new Plate 140 Plug In from Universal Audio? I recently tried it and had to buy it. It really seemed to fill in those needs of good and not too cheezy.

Re: when do YOU bottom-mic a snare?

As a drummer / learning to record person I would say, like everyone else, "it depends" If you have a spare track - do it - just in case You can always not use what you have but you can never add what you didn't get! Especially if it's a deep snare... It really depends on how much hi end you can get ...

Re: mixes that blow your mind.....

Some mixes I love that I have not seen listed: 1) Venus Hum - Big Beautiful Sky Really great and all old analog gear mix with some sweet vocals. well recorded I think. 2) Depeche Mode - Ultra Soft smooth and makes you want to crank it up 3) If you can find something from Crack The Sky - An old local...

Re: How much about mic matching is just hype?

Hi I thought about this too. While I wondered if it might mess up the sound stage especially in X/Y I wondered if perhaps some differences might actually help improve the perceived "stereo image" Last night I was testing an Oktava 219 against a MXL 990 (or 991, the big one) and found that the image ...

Re: Neutral mixing headphones??

Hi I have been thinking about this myself as I am forced to record and mix in a rehersal space with quite less than optimal acoustics. I have the same monitors at home as I use there and the mixes sound so very different. I have tried the HD580 and 600's and find they are great for listening but hav...
