Re: how to strip really small wires

Depending on how thin the insulation is / how likely it seems that I’ll badly knick the wire / and how hard it is to get into the working area around the wires, I will often use a naked razor blade and roll the cable gently between the cutting edge and a callus on my thumb. I’ll just roll it one tur...

Re: Time-stretching best-practices? (for a large file)

ha! good ideas all around. I ended up doing a mix of methods to get it to sound the way I wanted... But Stretch Markers is a SUPER smart move, and I'm surprised it didn't occur to me prior. I'm in Logic Pro X, and I do plenty of flex-time work, so I should have just tried that from the start...

Time-stretching best-practices? (for a large file)

Hi there! Trying to create an effect... I'm taking a long string of dialog (about 12min) and I'd like to gradually time-compress it to fit into a much smaller time-frame (not sure how long, precisely, that I'd like the end result to be) but I'm going for a sort of gradual time-warp... the first sent...

Re: Logic X Pro - Tempo and Audio Files

If I'm reading you correctly — you had the electronic drums printed to a pair of tracks on the 388, and then the other 6 tracks with overdubbed instrumentation... ...all of that (and it's 388-imparted wow/flutter) is now dumped into Logic as 8 individual audio tracks (or maybe some are stereo pairs,...

Re: PT rig rentals?

Cool, thanks! yeah — I think I'm gonna do a dry run with him to make sure he can successfully load up with his own iLok — having to loan out my auth USB would be a 100% dealbreaker.

Re: PT rig rentals?

I do have one follow up question — if I’m renting my computer with a PT installation... would he be able to use his own iLok, or will I have to include mine? I own the old PT 12.4 license on my own iLok... and he’s got PT 11.x + he’s got a new 2019.x Current subscription licensed on his iLok. Anyone...

I'll be interested to hear what you think.

They are also useful to have around for really tight drum set ups.
Well, I was fairly blown away at how wonderful the 408 sounded on a guitar amp in a live stage setup. I think I’m gonna hang on to 1 or 2 of these. Bought 3, so I’ll be selling one soon.

Re: PT rig rentals?

Good insights & resources, everyone! Thanks!! I'm gonna give it some serious thought. Thankfully, this is a friend I know & trust (and he's more OCD than I am with equipment care/operation) so I'm aware that it's a calculated risk. We've got 2mo to figure out the details, but I have a sense that it'...

PT rig rentals?

I have a laptop live capture rig that I use for (mostly) stand-up comedy recordings... but it can totally handle 16-18 ins, live. A friend is doing some sessions, in a couple of months, and doesn’t have a rig to bring with... so he asked if I might rent him my setup. Not sure the going day-rate for ...

I used a 408 on a guitar amp last weekend. I hadn't used it in a while, and damn if it didn't sound great.
Noted! I’m probably gonna sell these off, because I typically use my Beyerdynamic m160’s, but I’m tracking guitars in a few weeks, so I’ll give these a spin.

Re: Sennheiser MD504 vs current “e604”

We did our recording session last weekend, and I used the trio of e604 mics... they were fantastic, for my needs. On our last project, I'd used Audix D2/D4 mics on the toms... for this project I used 3 604's on the top 3 toms, and an EV RE20 on the floor tom — holy crap! Very very happy with the dru...

Re: Sennheiser MD504 vs current “e604”

Just went to google search "Sennheiser MD504", to find the response plots / details... Now I'm just laughing at myself, because the 3rd result in google was a TapeOp Messageboard thread from 2006... started by me... asking, basically the same question... and getting fairly similar answers. So, clear...

Sennheiser MD504 vs current “e604”

I recall, waaaaay back in the late 90’s, when I was first learning about recording, that a studio tech once told me that using the small MD504 on toms was great, because they had a very MD421mkii quality about them, but they were smaller and easier to tuck into a kit. So, over the years, I’ve kept m...

Re: Recording Mac in 2019

and PS... a 2008-2012 Mac Pro makes an insanely good backup & media server for the home / studio. I've tried a few dedicated NAS solutions... but nothing has compared to how well my old cheese-grater can host time-machine backups & serve PLEX media content to my home entertainment systems.
