What platform is that through? I can't seem to find any mention of it. My guess is he's overbooked and stopped offering new subs at that level.
I'll message him on linkedIn and find out. I don't see it on the WCA site, so maybe he's momentarily not doing those consults.

Re: Toft ATB-16 w/ Meter Bridge (Balanced Direct Outs)

Great consloe to mod/upgrade to an amazimg desk, great stock. Hey there! So, I've got the 4 channels of PIP installed. So far (I think) I'm hearing a little bit better/cleaner high-freq response, coupled with a less muddled low-mid response (but I've only spoken into these channels... haven't run i...

Re: Starting a small studio business

Here's a couple of questions that I wish someone had asked me, when I was 22, and I tried to start a studio: Are you attempting/planning to do this just because you want to , and because you think it'd be great to run a studio? Or are you taking work and serving a list of clients, already ? And if ...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

I just installed my Jim Williams audioupgrades.com PIP circuits for the Toft ATB-16. These are small daughter-card preamp modules (they look similar to an API 2520 Op Amp, in format) that go in where the 8pin THAT technology IC preamp would normally mount. I haven't put the 4 new channels of the Tof...

Re: Differences in monitoring: mix rooms vs mastering suites

Yeah, I tend to post the photos to flickr and then link them so that I can use hi-res photos. Cumbersome process, but when I want big photos, it works.

Re: Differences in monitoring: mix rooms vs mastering suites

So... maybe this should go in the "embarrassing Studio mistakes" thread... but this is a fun one. As I mentioned early in this thread, I had been messing with the tone-control dip-switches on the Hafler near-fields (TRM-8 powered monitors) but even with the maximum bass boost dips thrown... I wasn't...

Re: Differences in monitoring: mix rooms vs mastering suites

Okay... busy week, so I'm just getting back to the forums here, and thanks-all! for the suggestions and questions/insights. Here's the current music room layout: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/50814017116_d8a1c48a12_c.jpg The beige burlap panels are full of a white fiberglass "703"-esque insula...

Re: 1073 SPX pre versus Shelford Channel pre?

The more we analyze this, the more I think that I'm really turned off by the power supply on the SPX. ...same! I don't know if it's just us, or if other folks are as deeply turned off by seeing a wall-wart/line-lump power supply on a high-end piece of gear... but yeah, it makes me feel all kinds of...

Re: Differences in monitoring: mix rooms vs mastering suites

Good insights, all around, (...even vvv! ) I guess this all started because of the differences in my old room vs new room. My old room (a heavily dampened Cape Cod house attic, knee-walls and a 7' ceiling) seemed to give my Hafler TRM-8's an apparent bass-extension that the new room doesn't. ...

Differences in monitoring: mix rooms vs mastering suites

I’m kinda uncertain of my monitoring situation. So, among many potential solutions, I’m starting to wonder if getting new near-field monitors is a wise move. Here’s something about which I’ve often wondered (but never really asked anyone about) As I look at social media posts by all sorts of recordi...

I just want to personally thank you
...anytime!

In the moment, I was obviously embarrassed, and baffled as to how I'd managed to miss that / a little scared that I'd lose my job / also a little hopeful that those tunes had hit the airwaves on a Sunday morning.

Re: Studio Embarrassments

~20yrs ago: told the head engineer “lemme re-pack those totes for your remote recording, so you can fit it all on one cart when you load in. [at the live concert gig 2hrs away, on a Friday night]” (he was lugging 3 DA-88s, a bunch of outboard pre’s, etc...). He’s at the gig, and I’m still back at th...

Re: Melodyne (Essentials) 5 that came with recent PT

Also, just so you know I'm not a Waves-basher (I have Waves plugins I use a lot) but I had a horrible experience with Waves Tune, which is why I use Melodyne. Y'know, it's funny — I remember the early days of plug-ins, and Waves really spent all of their good-will. They burnt a lot of people with t...

Melodyne (Essentials) 5 that came with recent PT

Okay — I'm not one to normally be impressed by stuff that just comes with a larger software package... but when I decided to renew my PT subscription, and downloaded 2020.11, It now includes Celemony Melodyne Essentials 5. Obviously, Melodyne has always been talked about as a very serious toolset, b...

Re: 1073 SPX pre versus Shelford Channel pre?

Oh... and just something that I think might be true, and it would be helpful to remember: All of those great recordings, we all love... the ones made on the fancy-ass Neve desks in the 70's/80's/etc... (a lot of the time, the following statements would have been true) That artist could have sang/pla...
