Re: Neotek Elite 32 Channel Console

Hey there! Did you happen to buy that console around 2002-2003 from a studio outside Philadelphia? If so, I can at least vouch for the board and speak to some of its past pedigree. Forgive the hokey old photo — i had to use archive.org to find an old copy of the studio website. https://web.archive.o...

Re: What version of MacOS are you using & Why?

Here is why I use two computers: A laptop, running 10.13.6, and the latest Pro Tools, Cubase Elements, Reaper. I may get Logic X for it as well, when I need to use it with a client. It has to be the "latest", mostly so I can do two things: Open newer sessions and export them to my mixing system, an...

Re: Recording Live Comedy

I was going to comment that when I listen to some of those classic live albums, they sound pretty rough. Really obvious edits to take out dead spots, etc. I’m sure they have plenty of gnarly edits, but I was thinking (in the case of Steve Martin) about ‘Wild and Crazy Guy’, and it’s balance / level...

Re: Tascam MX2424 plus accessories $700.00 +SH

Wow, thanks Alex for the SCSI2SD info! I had no idea something like that existed. Yes — the SCSI2SD stuff is very very cool. I've used it to throw a 64gb microSD card inside my EMU sampler, and it's loaded up with all of my old CD-ROM libraries now... makes calling them up much faster! (and less wo...

TapeCamp at 1979: Can anyone share their experience?

Went to Larry Crane’s ‘Jackpot! mixing camp’ in summer 2016, and it was great! Met great people / got some great advice / learned a ton! Next year, I’m thinking about doing the ‘Welcome To 1979’ Tape Camp.. and I’m curious if anyone has thoughts on what it was like? I’m not planning on leaving the c...

Re: Recording Live Comedy

On the comedy note, I have some REALLY EARLY Steve Martin tapes I transferred to digital, and those were done similarly, with one NAGRA channel being the stand up microphone, usually a Shure of some type, and an omni audience mic somewhere in the audience. Not perfect, but you get the comedy and th...

Re: Recording Live Comedy

Must be the LR16 that I got. It’s 16 channel record and playback. Are your audience mics out in the crowd? How are they with PA bleed? When I started I would put my audience mics at the back by the sound booth pointing forward. Thecy ended up being more like room mics for the PA. Once I started put...

Re: Recording Live Comedy

Today I bought a Cymatic LP16 16 channel live recorder. I haven’t tested it out yet but it ticks all the boxes I was looking for for these gigs. I’d thought about an Alesis HD24 but this thing is brand new, smaller, records on any USB 2 drive and is under warranty. The specs look good but we’ll see...

Re: Recording Live Comedy

Yeah, it’s been a surprisingly cool part of my work for the last 10 yrs. one of old high school friends started in stand up 16yrs ago, and started having me out to videotape his shows... In Which the sound was always bad, so I started trying to improve that end of it. After a few of those, he asked ...

Re: Alesis HD24 - Still a decent option?

As far as hard drive compatibility with the HD24: There is a SATA drive caddy (as opposed to the original IDE) that opens up hard drive options a great deal. A quick internet search showed that some people have had drive compatibility issues with these, but I personally haven't. Found [url"http://c...

Re: Beyerdynamic m260

You might also want to double-check with United Sound Services about servicing them (as a "just in case") they're a 3rd party, but they handle the official parts replacement / service for all beyerdyanmic products. I know that Shinybox mentioned that Beyer no longer services them, but I'm not sure i...

Oh wow... that's great!! Dig it — I especially like the mounting job on your DIY sub kick. I just shell-mounted mine after 2yrs of having it simply mounted (via it's own magnet) to a piece of metal that kept it at the right height.

What version of MacOS are you using & Why?

I dropped out of the PT subscriptions at version PT12.4, so I haven't bothered to take my studio machine beyond OS 10.11.6 — it's super-stable and I haven't really felt a need to upgrade beyond it. My other machines (day-job laptop & household my household mac) are both updated to 10.13.x but I'm cu...

Re: Broadcast-Quality? for SiruisXM

Once again, many thanks for the thoughts on this! So far I'm getting great feedback from the comic and the couple people that they've shared it with... so that's encouraging. Looks like this has put me in a good light for their next project, which is super exciting!

Broadcast-Quality? for SiruisXM

Part Techie question about levels on sat-radio With Terrestrial Radio, I know they have a ton of multi-band limiters / etc... but do they always use them? With SiriusXM, do they have all that / use it at all? A comedy client asked me if the level on a project was "appropriate for broadcast", and I d...
