Re: MADIXtreme Help?

Best of luck on the test!

Also, it occurs to me that the PCIe slot / computer could be a potential factor. If your alternate card behaves the same way, you might see about trying a different PCIe slot in the same machine, or an alternate host machine (if possible.)

Re: MADIXtreme Help?

I don’t own one of these, so I can’t speak to exact experience, but from other similar situations (apogee symphony pcie) I think your troubleshooting is pretty sound. If you have the means to try this, maybe it’s worth buying a used MADI extreme pcie on eBay/reverb & trying it out. They are super ch...

Stewart PA-100 or Stewart PA-200 are small half rack no fan power amps.
Wow! I hadn't thought about those! I'll keep them in mind for other projects, in the near future!

Re: Fanless Pure Power Amp Recommendations?

All good input! I got really lucky today, and found another Hafler PRO2400 for a decent price on Ebay. Was about to pull the trigger on a used Bryston 3B (don't need the power of the larger amps), but I think I'm all set with the new amp!

Re: Fanless Pure Power Amp Recommendations?

In fairness, I don’t think I know enough about amp topologies to be as fussy as I wanna be. I’ll do a little homework and figure out if a Class D (is that what you mean by “Digital amps”?) amp wigs me out, or if I’d be cool with that. My tax return was nicer than expected, so I might look into a use...

Fanless Pure Power Amp Recommendations?

Hi all! I'm trying to do my best (in the home studio) to have a "big far-field" set of speakers that can really rock (probably even going to pair them with a sub that I own).. So basically, I've got plans to use my Hi-Fi towers (Older Paradigm brand Towers from the 90's) and they're in need of anywh...

Re: Speaker re-coning recommendations?

If he's still doing it — I can't recommend Bill Legall @ MillerSound highly enough. This guy is a real artist, he's super-affordable, and he's typically pretty quick. Thankfully, he's local to the Philly area, so I'm able to drive stuff over there. My last re-cone project was like 6-8yrs ago, but he...

Re: Coronavirus Plans (what are yours?)

I just bought a new house, and am just getting to the point at which my small guest-room temporary studio is up & limping. Since audio is no longer my full time career, I’m counting myself lucky that I have a FT job that lets me work from home 100% of the time. I am about to start editing together a...

Re: Got Attic Residue from diffusors

its the most expensive but also the fastest Good input — yeah; I've pretty much punted on the idea of elbow grease — as I did the math in my head and I see it as way more than 40hrs of work to get it clean. Plus, some of the glue already ripped the paint & drywall paper backing off (in just a few s...

That's what I'm figuring will have to happen — but I'd love to avoid that, if possible.

Got Attic Residue from diffusors

Hi! So life happened, and I've moved out of the house I'd set up my home studio in... and now I've removed about 16 sheets of Auralex foam from the painted drywall on which it had been glued. I used the standard Auralex FoamTak spray glue (I'm a good man... and thorough), so there was A LOT of glue ...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

How do you like that Xpressor? It bounces on and off my radar now and then. I Love it! I really just use it for a transparent compression in the mix bus. The built-in side chain filtering is great for preventing low-freq pumping. If you’re specifically looking for SSL style smashy-smashy 2bus glue,...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

Added another 2Bus rack from Dangerous (it was actually an original purple face rack... but I grabbed the new black faceplate from Sweetwater). And oddly enough, since this was a VERY early original, I had to drill out the internal chassis screw-holes and manually line up the new black faceplate, bu...

Toft ATB-16 w/ Meter Bridge (Balanced Direct Outs)

I bought this console new in Spring 2009, and it's lived with me in my home studio over the last decade+... but I've just moved to a new spot, and I'll be working in tighter quarters, so I'm not gonna have room for this sizable console. I'll be switching to some rack-unit pre's / channel strips. I'd...

Re: how to strip really small wires

Depending on how thin the insulation is / how likely it seems that I’ll badly knick the wire / and how hard it is to get into the working area around the wires, I will often use a naked razor blade and roll the cable gently between the cutting edge and a callus on my thumb. I’ll just roll it one tur...
