PT rig rentals?

I have a laptop live capture rig that I use for (mostly) stand-up comedy recordings... but it can totally handle 16-18 ins, live. A friend is doing some sessions, in a couple of months, and doesn’t have a rig to bring with... so he asked if I might rent him my setup. Not sure the going day-rate for ...

sending a PM. Got one that I barely use anymore... had been trying to figure out if I should repurpose it or find it a new home.

I used a 408 on a guitar amp last weekend. I hadn't used it in a while, and damn if it didn't sound great.
Noted! I’m probably gonna sell these off, because I typically use my Beyerdynamic m160’s, but I’m tracking guitars in a few weeks, so I’ll give these a spin.

Re: Sennheiser MD504 vs current “e604”

We did our recording session last weekend, and I used the trio of e604 mics... they were fantastic, for my needs. On our last project, I'd used Audix D2/D4 mics on the toms... for this project I used 3 604's on the top 3 toms, and an EV RE20 on the floor tom — holy crap! Very very happy with the dru...

Re: Sennheiser MD504 vs current “e604”

Just went to google search "Sennheiser MD504", to find the response plots / details... Now I'm just laughing at myself, because the 3rd result in google was a TapeOp Messageboard thread from 2006... started by me... asking, basically the same question... and getting fairly similar answers. So, clear...

Sennheiser MD504 vs current “e604”

I recall, waaaaay back in the late 90’s, when I was first learning about recording, that a studio tech once told me that using the small MD504 on toms was great, because they had a very MD421mkii quality about them, but they were smaller and easier to tuck into a kit. So, over the years, I’ve kept m...

Re: Recording Mac in 2019

and PS... a 2008-2012 Mac Pro makes an insanely good backup & media server for the home / studio. I've tried a few dedicated NAS solutions... but nothing has compared to how well my old cheese-grater can host time-machine backups & serve PLEX media content to my home entertainment systems.

Re: Recording Mac in 2019

I ran an 8-core cheese grater from 2009 until ~2017... at that point, my late 2013 Retina 15" MacBook Pro was actually performing faster than the tower for soft-synths & native plug-ins, so I dumped my UAD PCI-E cards and went to thunderbolt Satellites. For a desire to record in obnoxiously high sam...

Re: transparent 500 series pre

True Systems pT2-500 is the same circuit as they'd put into the Precision8 racks... which are really transparent . One of the guys I used to work with uses 24ch of those for his gospel choir stuff... he's into them because he likes to call them "a wire with gain". I'm sure the Millenia are equally ...

Network Backup Solutions for the studio?

Anyone have positive experiences with any particular brands / models of NAS drive enclosure? Would love to know about the following: - Write Speed / Read speed - Noise from fans, etc - Heat generated (like... could it be thrown in a closet without worrying that it will overhead / die?) My current lo...

Headphone extension wire (best gauge?)

I'm building a long (maybe 25'-40') extension for a headphone-level signal... and I'm not sure if there's any problem in using a standard shielded mic/line cable for this.... or if I ought to be buying a particular gauge of cable / particular shielding type. In this application, it's not going to be...

Re: Servicing AT mics

seconding that notion— it's rare that a typical repair (even in-warranty) would be turned around this quickly. That said, if you didn't get a "thanks, we've received your item and will update you as soon as more information is available" type of reply, I don't think they'll begrudge you following up...

Re: Izotope rx2 or other denoiser?

I believe Soundtrack Pro (old apple audio editor, which came in the FInalCut Studio 2 bundle) had a pretty decent (though not quite as good as RX5/6/7)... and it definitely works in older version of MacOs (pretty sure it would fly in 10.5.8...) I'll look to see if I still have my NFR copy, from when...

Guidelines & Best practices for Vinyl masters?

Pretty exciting stuff is happening around a project that I've been working on over the last several months... they might actually do a vinyl release. It's not a music album, it's a comedy record. It's definitely stereo material, and thankfully there's no dominant info in the sub 200Hz range, so I do...

Re: "smash channel" options, for drums... sans console?

Good point! I should reach out to the couple of manufacturers that I was thinking about, and ask if “dual output” is within their spec or not. that MIGHT work... I have the Radial 6 pack workhorse and there's a weird impedance thing that happens when you have the XLR and DB25 simultaneously connecte...
