I've got the Biz pre.
Slid nicely into a lunch box.
Haven't used enough to desribe the sound but so far it is super versatile...can be clean or driven depending on what you want.

That sounds like a cool placement...
How close to the beater head is the Mic?
I've never had much use for a under snare mic but this sounds fun.

Re: Royer 121 / Ribbon ???'s
A few more points.. Defintely try the Royer out with several pres.Seems to sound better with better pres? (Duh) Also it's very sensitive to placement eq- wise and very slight rotation can produce a fairly dramatic eq change.I will really tweek the Royer around to find the sweet spot. Lastly don't be...

Great guys, upfront about everything and easy to work with.
They delivered a little ahead of time as well.

Re: KINKS Muswell Hillbillies...
There are some great drum sounds on that record.
I think it was recorded at Konk, which was the Kinks personal studio. It may still be operational but I'm not sure.
I'm pretty sure it was based around a 70's Neve console.Probably 16 track 2 inch tape as well.

Re: Fender guitar question!
The problem would be that since the Tele is set up for "regular" Fender scale. If you slapped a Jag neck on the Tele I suspect the Gtr would be impossible to tune/intonate at least standard tuning.
I have seen some chambered Jag bodies somwhere on the web.
Mate that with a Jag neck and your good to go.

Re: Warmoth Products
You won't go wrong with the Warmoth stuff. Some of my favorite necks/bodies. One thing to consider, most frankenstein/home brew Gtrs tend to lose a lot of value esp when compared to a used Fender, etc. In other words you probably won't get your money out of it if you try to sell it down the road ...no ...

Re: stereo ribbon fun
Does the Sf12 need mucho gain?
I have a Royer 121 and Aea 84.
I'm sure using the Sf12 with drums or other loud sources is no problem but what about quiet sources e.g acoustic combos.
I'm curious about using the Sf12 for some classical/jazz location recording.
