I got an Epson R300 on the way.
I needed a new printer anyway and the ability to do Cdrs sealed the deal.

Re: Learning New Monitors
One thing that has seemed to help my mixes lately is making sure I'm monitoring a reference mix or whatever cd thru the same D/A that I monitor my mixes with. In the past I wasn't set up to do this, but since I started, it can really help you to focus your mixes and get a better idea of what is real...

Re: Dealing with clients ignorance of Mastering
I take the Joel approach but will try some light 2 buss compression and/or limiting to keep things even song to song. This compression/limiting may/may not ( but probably won't) stay on down the road. Even if you explain level changes beforehand some band member will still wonder why the songs aren't...

Re: I want to buy a Vox AC30. What do I need to know first??
I'll second the Tophat. I was in the same boat as you a few years ago and opted for a King Royale. Built like a tank(which I now kinda regret b/c it's a bear to gig with)and tone for days.It can be full on Vox and veer into Marshall territory when pushed. The Tophat used to come with a Celestion and ...

Re: Mic'ing that Wurlitzer...
Jeff,
That's how I've done it as well.
Had to crank the gain on the pre but the Hardy's I'm sure were up to the task.

Re: Brent Averill 312 vs. Chandler TG-1
I tried out the TG2 for a few weeks.I also have a BA API lunchbox. I really wanted to love the TG2 but I must be one of the few that didn't. It used in mostly on snare and Gtr. It was great on Gtrs...crunchy, way forward mids, plenty of gain with ribbons, but in the end it didn't seem as useful as my ...

Re: Recording one's own band
Cool thread. I've done 3 albums this way so a few observations. 1.It's really hard to engineer and play at the same time.I find I'm worried about one job when I should be concentrating on the other. Some of my better recordings have been when I have recorded my band (as a engineer) then laid down my ...

Re: MF Blowing out Pro VLA - $239
I got my VLA yesterday....The Vu light on channel 1 was burned out but I ran a 1 mic drum loop thing thru it and sounded pretty cool.I will probably just try and replace the vu light myself.
