I agree with the original post. I can do whatever I want with what I have now.
It's a simple equation:
More gear = more unneeded options = more indecision = less music, more dicking around with toys...

oh, and BTW, the loss of bass thing simply is not true of any decent transformer. I have run things like bass through extra transformers just because they has a slightly resonant BUMP at about 80hz. Every neve console has about a zillion transformers in it. Many, many great mic pre's made today use...

You'll lose a bit of bass going through transformers. The cheaper the transformer the more bass you lose.

I vote for the white board tape too. Except I write on them with fine-point Sharpies.
It won't wipe off like a dry-erase marker, but comes right off with a little white-board cleaner spray & a paper towel.

A volume control that goes between the output of an amp and it's speakers is called an audio attenuator. They are usually very expensive, because they have to handle the power levels AFTER the amplifier has boosted them. It's a lot better to put the volume control BEFORE the amplifier, then you can ...

Re: BITCHIN'
alright. test succccessss. Sounds exactly what I was after. Budgeted out the tracks in the computer as if I were recording back in the day, as to what would cut out where / tamb in when vocal cuts out. Sounds amazing. With the mix of computer plugs / outboard gear - actually came out with a cool re...

You should probably start by replacing all the polarized caps - - none of them are likely to be any good at this age. Next, spend a couple days cleaning the pots and finding out which ones are worn out & need to be replaced.

Try to find out how noisy the environment is - - harp has a lot of very quiet detail that is easy to lose in the noise floor. For a quiet room, I'd suggest a ribbon 4 - 6 feet away, and an ambient mic 15 or more feet away. If the room is noisy at all, add a good quality contact mic or PZM. ________ ...

If it's safely in the computer, here's a simple answer: Bounce the mix to a new track. Reverse the new track, muting all the others. Record another new click track which will be just long enough to replace what was lost. Using the click source of your choice (I like a closed hi-hat), play along with...

Re: touche
right. Here's the quandary. If you take the time to get sounds that you like in the computer you can edit / etc... to you hearts delight. Then, assuming you want the lo-fidelity / hiss / etc... that a cassette 4 track involves - my question is - why couldn't you mix down the drums then slam them to...

Weird question. I see every technique as a tool to get a job done. So, to me, this is like asking "would it be a good idea to paint my house with a hammer?" The answer has to be "What would doing this accomplish?" So: What is it you would want to accomplish by doing this? ________ Vaporizer Affiliate

Go to your VST folder and create some new subfolders. Put the plugs into the subfolders, organized the way you like.
