My vote is for the noise reduction, too. I prefer the reduction in Cooledit / Adobe Audition to the others. If the original track is 16 bit, convert it to 24 or 32 bit for the noise removal; you'll get better results, even if you have to dither it back to 16 bits when done. ________ Arizona Dispensa...

Checking for shorts - The idea is to make sure that nothing is connected together unless it's supposed to be. The method: Depending on your DMM, use the Ohms range (looks like an upside-down U) or the diode checker (looks sort of like this: -|<|- ). - - - - - If using the Ohms range, touch your test...

Guitar Center Bought out
I heard this on another forum - -
Apparently, some investor group bought them out. Maybe they'll take the giant ugly monster and turn it into a lot of small companies that are less dysfunctional.
Well, I can dream, can't I?

I played with Agnula for a while, trying to get things up to a usable state. After 4 weeks of messing with it, I gave up. Just not ready for prime time, I guess. For example, my 10 in - 10 out audio interface showed up as a mixer applet with 84 separate unlabelled faders - - completely unusable. ___...

This is a minefield. Suppose you record these tones to a tape. Now how do you tell if the recorder was properly aligned? If you use this tape to align another machine, how do you know whether you're using a screwed up tape and misaligning a perfectly operating machine so it will only work well on ta...

I use an Excel sheet that allow freeform entry of dates, notes, whatever else I want to include (photos of mic setups, settings for outboard FX, CD liner graphics, copies of emails, etc.). Reel to reel requires some committment from the operator - - cleaning and demagnetizing the machine at the end and beginning of each session, ability and technical tools (or money and a way to find technical talent to pay) to keep the unit aligned and properly biased, and a committment to storing th...

I don't think there's a lot of difference in quality between models - - they're all great. What different models get you are different numbers of channels and submix buses, which are indicated by the digits in the model number. So, figure out how many channels and submix buses you need, and that'll ...

I've seen a Jensen Applicaton Note that said you can convert an unbalanced output (without a transformer) to a balanced one by duplicating the AC path of the hot side on the unbalanced circuit, then inserting the duplicated circuit between ground and the other balanced line. Hard to explain. Easier ...
