The right way to do it: "Y" together the two channels through two 100 ohm resistors (this way the two channel outputs aren't directly shorted together). I suspect 10K might be a bit too high for a value. Like this: TRS stereo ouput 1/4" mono plug T--100ohms-\ ...................|--------T R--100ohms...

The best way to fix this is to use a noise reduction plug-in. Select a small snippet of background noise as a noise sample, then tell the plug-in to remove everything except the noise. When done, listen carefully to the background noise left, and notice how much better it sounds than the same track ...

The one thing that always gets me when I read through threads like this is the multitude of "I can't think of five good albums that were released this year" types of responses. I've been a lifelong hardcore music geek that is always actively digging into what's happening. In spite of the fact that ...

I once had a job hand-building computer motherboards, soldering for 8 - 10 hours a day. The flux in the solder is not good for you - - I found my sinuses starting to bleed regularly after a few months. I ended up grabbing a muffin fan (like those used in computers) to blow the fumes away from my fac...

I've even toyed with custom-stamping sleeves of tubing with the studio name on them to keep honest people honest. I figure, a rubber stamp and some permanent ink will do the job. Roger For identifying wires, that works really great with white heat-shrink; they use that on aircraft wiring all the ti...

The 1 A rating on the rectifier is simply the amount of current the rectifier is guaranteed to handle before it vaporizes. That is not necessarily related to the maximum current the power supply can source - that is set by the current and power rating of the weakest component between AC input and DC...

Let me get this right - - this guy was mixing FOH for the band while telling you all this stuff??? When did he have any time to do his job? And how could he possibly do it well if he was so busy being your guru? IMHO, it is good to beware people who know 'the secrets' because there aren't any. There...

FWIW, the DAW for which I left T2 is REAPER. Definitely worth a look. And very definitely in the <200$ category - - basically free, $50 to register for non-professional use, ~$200 for professional use. http://www.reaper.fm/ Coded by the same guy who wrote WinAmp (before AOL bought it). ________ Uggs

I used Tracktion 2 for a year or two. It was fast & efficient - - if you like going in and getting stuff captured quickly without fighting techno-snafus for hours, it's perfect. The midi editing is not strong, but is usable. I mostly used it for capturing audio tracks though. I since have abandoned ...

It is totally common for percussion to have a high peak to RMS ratio - - that is the nature of drum sounds. If you are recording in 24 bit, you should be able to run with RMS levels down to -35 dBFS without any issues, assuming your signal chain isn't noisy. If you're using 16 bit recording, yes, yo...

If the mic picks up honk, it is because there is honk there to pick up. Try using another amp, or connect a different speaker to the amp. Or fire the honky playing it & hire a 'brother' to play the guitar part. (sorry bout that last one...)
