SSSSSS sounds to 7"...how to solve the problem?!
Vocals sounded okay when they were recorded, but after mastering and thrown onto 7", the vocals have a SSSSSSSSSS sound accentuated possibly by the vinyl medium itself. the vocals were recorded a long time ago without a compressor or preamp...new vocals would be recorded using at least a compressor ...

What is the main purpose of a pre? Is it simply to boost the signal or more?
Are there any drawbacks to using a compressor with a board using an insert cable as opposed to running the in through it first and then the compressor into the channel?
