We have a whole rack of green; 1592's, 1566's and 1591a's. We love them all, but my absolute favorite is the 1591a. Vocals are great through it!

It is only time to say goodbye if your hardware drivers aren't supported. I don't see anything wrong with using it otherwise.

Sounds like you've made up your mind to stick with PT, now. So, this might be too late. But I would encourage you to look into SAWStudio. Totally different work flow from pro tools. But running it on your WinXP machine is a no brainer.

It depends on the size of the room, of course. But for small venues, we set a mic on each side of the stage facing the audience. 57's up to high priced Schoeps mics have been used depending on the damage potential and type of music of each show.

You didn't have a comments section on the blog, so I'll leave one here. You have some novel ideas for including credits in the mp3 tags. But the artist/label doesn't always have control. In the case of CD Baby, when they receive a CD, they are the ones creating the MP3 for downloads and sending it o...

Brian: I married an engineer. And, you are right. It is great to be able to discuss your job with your spouse and have them understand everything you are talking about. We offer suggestions on each others projects and have worked together on some. We did not meet "on the job". But we knew each other...

I've been active on this board for a number of years. But this past year I hadn't the time to even lurk. Just saw the post today.

Stephanie, great post.

Bottom line, we just aren't taken seriously. I've been an engineer for 25 years and I've felt it more recently than ever before.

Jon Pousette-Dart's letter in Tape Op 82

Saw Jon's letter in Tape Op 82 regarding his wire recorder. And just had to respond. I've been working with and transferring wire recordings for over 10 years. And I have many heart-breaking stories of families wanting to get the old machine working so they can hear these wire recordings again. I ca...

Fun video! I did some radio drama recording years and years ago (ok 30) and loved doing it. So, a few years ago I answered a classified ad looking for help recording a radio drama series in Fort Collins, CO. They were hoping to get syndicated, but I don't think they ever did. There was some disagree...

I've never owned a machine, but I do have a disc that is already recorded on. They are just thin plastic. Unlike commercial records, the discs are embossed, most home "cutters" (Wilcox-Gaye, Presto, etc.) did it that way. You could use just about anything plastic, CD-rs are popular. I heard of someo...

A Tannerin is what you hear on the Beach Boys Good Vibrations. Similar to a Theremin, but played differently.
