Re: Getz's Jazz Samba
Who recorded it and how??? IMO thats one of the best recordings ever, just in terms of warmth and transparency. I would very much like to know. I don't know much about how it was recorded, but I do agree with you. That recording just knocks me out every time I hear it. The things that I hear in tha...

Re: Some new rough mixes
Yes, well that's got to be one of the dumbest things I've done in a long, long time. It's fixed now.nlmd311 wrote:Where are the tracks?

Some new rough mixes
http://s93039938.onlinehome.us/index.htm Here are some rough approximations of some songs I've been working on lately. I'd love to hear feedback on them. With the exception of "Fly" and "So Much Better", the vocals are only there for guidance. They are occasionally off key and not particularly well ...

Re: Best synth program for a PC
I really like NI's stuff too. I'd also second Aadiomulch, but not so much as a synth package. I think that Audiomulch is one of the most entertaining programs out there to just screw around in, and pretty frequently find myself actually using a lot of the bizzarre crap that comes out of it.

Re: suggestions for Win XP multitracker...
Vegas is by far the easiest to learn. I got it with my Delta 1010 a long time ago, and I was using Vegas to multitrack and loving it within minutes. I personally use Sonar now, as I've started doing MIDI stuff and using lots of DXi and VSTi instruments (via an adapter), and I personally can't stand ...

Re: turntable question
I second what wardshorsehead said. If you've got a good A/D converter already, just get a good old fashioned analog turntable. I'd rather rely on my own choice of converters than somebody else's anyway.

FWIW, I don't think you're supposed to let your system go to sleep with any of these recorders. I've had a Layla, a Delta 1010, and a Seasound, and all of them said not to let your computer go to sleep or hibernate. Just thought I'd share that.

Re: Using windows PC as a standalone VST effects host...
I have done a little bit of this just screwing around with my Seasound Solo in Sonar, but never in a live performance situation. I was using my theremin in combination with my guitar going through a vocoder and some other stuff...made some really kickass sounds. I've been giving a lot of thought to ...

Re: do i need to partition?
One thing about Partition Magic, though, is that I've had it create inaccessible dummy partitions of a non-trivial size in addition to the new one. In other words, I create a new 3 gig partition for a Linux install or something, and it spins off an additional half gig or so as unusable sapce (no, no...

Re: The return of ME
Wow, thank you both! Since this is a recording forum, I'll now proceed tell you more than you probably care to know about how I recorded it. I was trying for the vocal atmosphere of the old Brazillian music I like so much; that incredibly intimate sound like someone whispering into your ear. The voc...

The return of ME
Wouldn't ya know it? The day after I post my link, they change the forums. Here we go again, then: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/6/danwarrenmusic.htm I do a lot of sampling-based music that sounds nothing like this, but Soundclick won't let me upload it. This particular song is a mishmash of quiet...
