Re: MicPre Brent/Chandler/API
I have an API 3124+ and it's fantastic on drums and bass. As far as for vox I've gotten so & so sounds using Soundelux Elux 251/BLUE Baby Bottle/Shure SM58 mics thru the API.

During the day, I work for an acoustical engineering consulting firm, specializing in transportation noise control. I work on environmental studies nationwide that address aviation/transit/highway noise issues, design noise walls, predict noise/vibration levels due to future transportation planning...

Re: What guitar rocks your recording world?
I used to have an old ('65 - '68) Gibson Firebird but it's gone now. That will be the next guitar I buy, one of the new 3 pickup Firebird reissues.

Re: What guitar rocks your recording world?
I have a G&L ASAT bass that is very cool, though normally I opt for my fender Jazz.

Re: Large Diaphragm Condensers
Oops - I din't read the part where you wanted to use it for vox as well. The Shure KSM 44's would prolly be better as an all around vox/acoustic/random instrument mic than the Josephson's.

Re: Large Diaphragm Condensers
For $1K you could get a stereo pair of Shure KSM 44's or a stereo set of the Josephson C42's (yeah I know they're SD mics). Either way you're looking sharp.

Drats I missed it. Bjork's Vespertine was my album of the year for 2001.

Absolutely right! I shoot my '62 Tele Custom (or Tele-Sonic) through either a Vox AC30 TBX, or Mesa Blue Angel head with 2x12 Fender cab.rocksteady wrote:You can never go wrong with a Telescaster!

Re: Soundelux mic comparisons
I own a Soundelux ELUX 251 that I use as my own personal vocal mic. It rocks. If I were choosing between the U195 and the ifet47, I would prolly go for the ifet47.

What guitar rocks your recording world?
What's your favorite guitar for recording? My favorite electric is a '62 Fender Tele Custom and my favorite bass is a Fender Jazz bass.

Re: Anybody have Blue Balls?
Being a tremendous fan of the Neumann CMV563 with M7 capsule, I am intrigued to try their Kiwi model. I did try the Baby Bottle and was very disappointed in it's cheap, chirpy microphonic-ness. Being their budget mic, I'm sure it didn't get all the design care. I stick to a few thousand $$$ to get ...

I dig watching 'real' engineers at work. It's a great way to learn new tricks.

Re: George L's?
I use the L's on my pedal board. They are tricky to get them working but they do sound nice. I never plug mine in while I'm 'configuring' them.

Vibe. When I read the articles in Op it seems like most of those who are interviewed have a cool, unique, homestyle way of cooking their music.
