using stompboxes in a live vocal chain

I found this thread but it's locked. I know this is not recording-specific but... What is the correct way (read:match impedance/get best gain situation) to use stompoxes with live vocal mics? Right now I have one of those xlr->1/4" cords going right into some stompboxes, then 1/4" into a direct box,...

Cool. That seemed to work. At least until I stuck a plugin on the "comped bus" aux channel. Any of the digirack plugz seemed to sound OK, but anything more "intensive" delayed the track by up to 100ms. Cool if you want a slapback effect, but... So my question is, how do you PT'ers go about this? I'm...

Hey folks, sorry for the newbie question. I'm used to working in Nuendo, but am mixing some stuff in protools right now. I am trying to do the old drum bus aux send to another bus heavily comp'ed trick, but am having issues with my normal method in protools...i get a slight delay I think on the seco...

is anyone a broadcast radio audio engineer?

I'm sick of sound-for-picture as a day job. I don't even watch TV, so I shouldn't be editing for TV. I do isten to lots of public radio though... Does anyone on this board do radio audio engineering? Specifically, public radio? What's it like? How does it pay (assuming you get paid at all)? I have n...

Thanks folks, good suggestions. Hopefully I will get my $1500 budget approved. If not, and they give me the low end ($500), any other suggestions?

good channel strip for voice-over AND music recording

I am doing some post-sound work at a video house and they want me to spec out a channel strip (or preamp/comp/de-ess array) for a voice-over booth they are building (and I will be operating). Anyone got any suggestions for a budget of about $500-1500? I really have never used any "good" mic pres, ou...

Thanks will. That makes sense, but it just doesn't appear that there is any place to assign the external input signal in the plugin interface(s) to anything...another track, aux track, whatever

So, I feel like a dummy, but I can't figure out how to implement a fairly simple keyed gating scenario in Cubase (SX3). I got an overhead snare mic track i need to be key-gated to the bottom snare mic track. How to I route this in Cubase? Here are the things (plugz) I have tried: -waves C1 (no exter...

Thanks guys, for all the help. I AM gonna start making my own cables...but not with this one. I think this particular connector is just too hard to find, and I need this mic up and running ASAP. Already did 2 sessions without it. If I get another old 421 I'll make sure and get one with the klein tuc...

Word. Thanks for the legwork! I had several converstations with people at Amphenol who assured me that they were not making these connectors anymore. They made fun of me for buying a 60s mic :(

Thanks. I checked out that thread already, it didn't really have any specifics on where to find these parts...I've been searching the internet the last few days only to have a bunch of folks call me crazy for asking for what I thought would be a pretty easy thing to find. Anyways, I found this guy i...
