Couldn't you achieve a better result by placing an iso-transformer on the incoming ac? i believe (i may be wrong) that even if you have dc running into your gear, it can still be noisy if the ac feeding your power supply has a bunch of voltage dumping to ground. granted the power supply you provide ...

Re: Silly Question
..... So what's the simple answer to this? Too much room noise? No attack? No totally simple answer. If you have decent and low noise preamps and mics at your disposal, try and x/y stereo pair in front of the player (even up to 7' away) and at "head" level. AKG C414's have worked for me. In a decen...

Re: Drum positioning in a big concrete/drywall room ?
I'll do some recording soon in my jam space which is a 40'x20' room with half the walls concrete (1 40' wall and 1 20" wall) and the other half drywalls. The ceiling is about 10' high and concrete, floor is industrial carpet. Also, there is no sound treatment in the room. Somebody here had a simila...

Well, it depends on the input of the preamp. Some of them are effectively a d.i. The reason a D.I. is used is to match the impedance of the signal to what the input (console, preamp, fx unit ect.) is expecting. Some d.i.'s have a "thru" output, like the radial jdi. This is (or at least should be) a ...

Every space will be different. You might get really cool things from each space. I agree with Tony. It also matters how you approach mic'ing the kit in each room. You may have problems with overheads in the basement. A stereo pair in front may suck in the attic. A mic in the furthest edge of the pe...

Re: tape machine question
....and was also noticing that the tape plays slower about 7-8 min. into the reel.... This is also common with tape that is worn out, especially if it only does this on one reel. Do you have a new or nearly new reel you can test this with? Rewind does soumd like bad hubs. A real tech could tell you...

yeah- you're right- that is exactly what I am reccomending. Load the DVD content into Vegas and start adding tracks. great idea. this could also be done via digital performer and a motu 2408. that would involve a mac...which i'd much rather have as a "must work" piece of audio gear at a live perfor...
