If you're really looking to give the drums distance, try recording with one mic to capture the drum sounds and the other around the corner and down the hall a little bit. Add the distant mic to the mix to add amazing amounts of "room" sound. You'll have to experiement on the single mic to make sure ...

I got some Tannoy Reveal 8Ds about a year and a half ago and since then, my mixes always translate well. They have plenty of bottom end and basically, I've never been surprised by my mix when played on any other system. Isn't that about all you can ask for?... I mean, besides super good detail? But ...

Keying a gate in Cubase?
Does anybody know how to key or sidechain an FX channel in Cubase SL? I want to key an expander on a drum room track from my snare track to get a big 'ole snare sound.

As a drummer, I simply tune them so that they sound cool to me. If they are too high, I make 'em low. If they flap in the wind, I tune them up. Once I get the overall note and feel about right, I tap near each bolt and tune them to sound the same and to get rid of out of tune ressonances. That's jus...

Treble = closeness, distance = comfort if the music is loud If a certain instrament track in a mix has a lot of high frequency the listener will percieve it to be closer and more directly located than a track with highs rolled off. I tend to use ribbon mics as drum OHs because I don't want too much ...

I would wager that it has a lot to do with the room too. Since the mic is an omni I bet you're getting a lot of reflection from the ceiling and I bet that reflection has a particular frequency that you're not liking. You better have some tall ass ceilings with good diffusion if you want to use an om...

That sounds pretty good. I guess the only thing I would suggest to get it to fit my tastes right now would be to place an omni somewhere in the house so that no direct sounds from the drums hit it but where there would be rich reverberant sounds. Compress and blend to taste. Over all I think it is a...

I just did a 7" for a band here in Atlanta where I used a Beyer ribbon mic as a mono OH and it's the best drum sound I've ever produced. The ribbon really puts the cymbals in check and I even thought I might not have enough highs in the mix but compressing the drum mix really brought them up. The mo...

When I think of "loud" I think of reverb.... or more accurately, the excitement of the space the souce sound exists in. And compression. To me, "loud" is a psychoacoustic term. Peoples ears naturally compress loud sounds and we also notice the effect of the sound in the space. So compress it and add...
