Re: best way to really learn compression
you have to think about what is your objective in compressing this track(s)? is it... 1) to control the peaks so I can bring up the rest of my track? 2) to compress my peaks duck it back into the mix? if you answered yes to #1 then... solo the track, set your makeup gain to zero, start with a modera...

Re: dbx 160 on vocals?
I'd look for a 165a for vocals. Unlike the 160/161/162, it features variable attacke and release. The 160 is awesome on transients, but it has a fixed attack time which doesn't always lend itself to vocals. You can usually find 165s on ebay for around $600. S_H great idea, the 160's are a little sl...

Re: Getting rid of unwanted bleed after Tracking
maybe try duplicating the OH tracks and eqing the duplicates so that all you have left is the scratch guitar bleed and then try mixing it in out of phase with the original track, may not work as a perfect fix but the results could be interesting, we often do the same thing with the hum from guitar a...

you could also try suspending sheets of lead
you can probably buy cheaper supplies than those companies will offer you, on Google look up absorbtion coefficients and try and see what raw materials will absorb the most sound

Re: Adding seperation and depth while mixing
If this experiment works out, then try using this same mentality when you're tracking too. there is no such thing as "fixing it in the mix", you truly have to "make it in the take", the best way to get better at mixing is to get better at tracking, if you go into the mix with great tracks, there is...

Yamaha's Sound Reinforcement Handbook Covers a lot about Op Amps and resistance and power amps and what not... A great book none the less... unfortunately this book is full of errors and of course only displays the horrid schematics and block diagrams emplyoed by Yamaha, I would try: Handbook for S...

for a little more i would recommend the Event 20/20 BAS pair, but the TS8 model which is one step down, i believe, should be sufficient and in your price range

Re: what about adding reverb to vocals?
why can't you use outboard reverb with the mbox? i've never used protools, but i know in logic you can set up an aux send to any of the hardware outputs. so set up an aux bus in protools, send that out through the mbox into the reverb box, and record the output from the reverb on a seperate track i...

Re: ProTools LE click track?
Pro Tools has always had a click. The issue lies in the fact that you need some sort of synthesizer or soundback to trigger the actual click sound, which is the same as Digital Performer. All you need to do is connect a keyboard or drum machine to your computer via midi. Then the same place you go t...
