Judging by what I read on audio boards, we're experiencing a serious spike in N ray activity.

I hear a hard drive or two in the background. Not electrical interference, but the sound of the drive(s).

I've been using a double layer with 20x20 on the outside and and layer of 40x40 underneath to damp the ringing of the stiffer outside layer. I like to build side-addressed mics, though, and they tend to have big-ass grill structures that want to ring like crazy.

You can also use party-bowl sized screens from your local head shop. And, no, I'm not kidding.

I don't think the other elements of the set really lend themselves to that. I screw around with the EQ on the other parts of the set a lot more from song to song. Plus the BD has a boatload of signal to throw away.

One of those really cheap Superlux BD mics, the PRA218. I just pretty much tried to duplicate the EQ I was always putting on it, taking out the boxiness and bringing up the boom and whap freqs.

I liked the idea so much that I threw this together- http://www.mp3forkidz.com/BDfilter.GIF Here's a SPICE plot of the frequency response at maximum depth. (The model assumes that the mic impedance is purely resistive, so take it with a large grain of salt.) http://www.mp3forkidz.com/BDplot.GIF It's...

Check out what old Rat pedals are going for on eBay. Put in a new switch, sell it, and buy a bunch of new parts.

Check at your closest Tower Records. If they don't carry it, talk to the mag person and they can bring it in for you.

Re: Lookin to kill flutter in my dorm room.

I haven't used anything I can compare it to, I just noticed that they had a fairly good rep. The price and the fire rating sold me on it. I bought two sheets of the stuff but I've barely touched the second one. I had a little flutter and some high end ring in my room and this stuff fixed it right up...

Re: Most ANNOYING drum sound?

A lot of early punk records are ruined for me cuz some hippy engineer tuned the drums down until the skins were flapping, then put duck tape all over them. I especially hate it cuz that's what happened to me the first time I went in a "real" studio. Fucking hippies.

Re: Live Mixer - Good or Hell NO?

I have a UB1202 that I picked up to use with my band's rehearsal room PA cuz it was cheap. After all the behr bashing I'd seen, I really didn't expect much, but it's pretty well built (not great, though) and sounds pretty darn good.
