Re: anyone still making a living in nyc???

........There are plenty of people who don't know a multi-track recorder from a hole in the ground. Sad but true......but yet there are still CDs being made. Yet these same people can practice, read books and forums like this, go to adult learning centers or schools that offer training in ProTools ...

Re: recommend a bass drum mic...please?

I'm not sure if Radio Shack still makes them...but Crown does. PZMs are great as a 2nd mic inside the bass drum, just place it right on top of the pillow, you might need to reverse the phase.. and if the drummer's beater is felt or soft sounding & you want a little click in the attack...just combin...

Re: Mid-Side for Drum Overheads?

I have also tried m-s on overheads and wasn't too thrilled with the results in the overhead position. the ortf method (2 mic's spaced 17cm apart angled at 110 degrees) and what Chris had just described has yeilded very good results for me. You might also want to try with the x-y config is changing t...

Re: Whoa check out this auction

I tried selling a Sony PCM3348 about three years ago on digibid with a starting price of $15k (the studio bought it for $180k 3 years before that :!: ) and nobody bid on it. Consoles may have a better chance at being sold.........does anyone know if Daniel Lanios sold his Vintage Neve? It was listed...

Re: Mic Storage

Well, That Desiccant -I think that?s spelled correctly, the Do Not eat thing does produce a corrosive liquid. If you live in an area with low to moderate humidity it may be OK and even good. In high humidity it?s really necessary. But the irony ? In really high humidity it absorbs so much water tha...

Re: Mic Storage

hey I've had a vintage u47 come to me in a tupperware container! My personal preference is to put it away if it isn't used for a length of time. This lowers the chance of someone stealing it! (Worked at a studio where we had 3 u87's stolen in about 2 years time) As far as the moister absorbers, I'd ...

Re: mixing choices

For me , it is a no brainer. Mix it to 1/2 inch and master from 1/2 inch, however definitely mix it back into protools or another hi-res format like the alesis masterlink at 24bit/96kHz as a back-up . It may cost a little more but I think it is worth it in the long run. I recently attended a masteri...
