AEA R88/preamp?
I may be buying an AEA R88 for stereo room micing, direct to 1/4" tape. I contacted Matt at AEA and asked for preamp guide lines. He responded with: Gain > 60dB EIN < -127dB Input Impedance > 1.5k ohms I am looking for a clean preamp with maybe a little personality that would compliment this mic. in...

Re: Micing a kick drum with a speaker?
Correct, I guess I should have put one of those smiling faced emoticons near the $300, to show that I thought it was funny that Yamaha jumped right onto a homemade product and massproduced it themselves. "Smileylearingface"

This is a scam. Don't do it. I can't remember the details of how it works, but I'm sure someone will fill in the details for you soon. I hear about it happening on ebay a lot.

Re: Help Larry: Cosimo Matassa at TapeOpCon
How does he feel about the sampling of classic songs that he's worked on, by modern artists? Has he heard any of the samples? The begining of Fats Domino's "Let the Four Winds Blow" at the begining of The Eels "Novocaine for the Soul" is cool. Jon Brion works with The Eels, maybe you could stir up s...

Re: reverb choice
I am looking for outboard gear. I do like the idea of creating a reverb chamber where I'm recording, because I'm doing mobile recording and most of these are at rehearsal spaces. Most of the rehearsal spaces are in old factories and have just such open space rooms near by. Great idea. The spring rev...

Re: reverb choice
Thank you for all the info. I do have the Demeter Real Reverb spring reverb, which I love. I just need a little digital reverb at times. I'm going to search into the suggestions. Keep posting them, I appreciate the help.

The most important features I am looking for are: low noise, ease of operation, realistic reverb (not freaky outerspace soun...

Re: Let us reflect, nay ruminate, upon echo pedals. Please.
I don't think that anybody mentioned the Danelectro Reel Echo. http://www.danelectro.com/reelecho.htm It is a cool "fake" tape echo with a lot of control to get the sound you are looking for, + it looks great. I recorded some vocals with it last night and was able to achieve the precise sound the si...
