Re: Orange amps... comments/critiques?
Aren't they used for really hard rockin' overdrive too?

Re: best mic for trumpet track?
Electro Voice mics generally sound great on horns so I second the RE20. Maybe even RE11, RE18, etc would be good too. I like dynamic mics on trumpet usually.

Re: The F#%king Cars....
Just want to say I love the Cars too! "Just What I Needed" with Benjamin Orr on vocals is one of my all time favorites! Too bad he passed away in 2000. Bummer...

Re: rudest thing you've ever said to a client...?
I told a band that's coming in for work soon that they needed better gear and to buy a tuner. They are unique and cool sounding but they're kids who don't tune to a tuner enough. Also the "guitarist" hits strings so hard he breaks them a lot. I pulled no punches in telling them to be more profession...

Re: shit, i think my RNC just died
My RNC does some strange clicking when I push the makeup gain too hard. It distorts a little or somthing. Still works OK but it's tougher to set it up right when I need to compensate for heavy compression. That's sucks about yours. It's cool they will look at it quick though. I still think for the m...

Re: mic pres/comps with color
I have some decent colored pres and comps already but was thinking of that Alesis Smashup for some total color. Is that thing as great as the "Smashup rules" thread implies? I bet you could get really nasty over-the-top with it. Then I still have a Joe Meek VC6 that I love for color that's more refi...

Man, I'm bummed. I could have gone if I hadn't already planned a vaction that week in Florida. Then I'd take you up on that offer since I'm close and all.

Yes, "over-under" is what I call it too. I was taought to wrap them that way in college and also used it when I was an intern several years back.

Re: How did you first find Tape Op?
Read about TapeOp in another cool forum on the internet maybe 2 years ago. Signed up for a free subscription that I have made sure to keep current when I moved recently. I like it a lot better than Mix or EQ. I used to pay for Mix subsciption and now I don't even bother with it....or Playboy but tha...

Re: Harmony-Central now has a microphone review page
Harmony-Central still needs more categories for outboard gear that's recording specific. Or maybe just break down the Effects category. Most of the reviews that get posted are for guitar gear.

Re: new issue anywhere in Boston?
i wouldn't see a place like that having much to do when it comes to music and stuff... how do you like it? I like here most of the time. I do have quite a bit of audio work and I play in a local band. My studio does a lot of singer/songwriters with their guitar kind of stuff. We also do some radio ...

Re: Recording Guitar Amp Direct out vs. mic
My Johnson J-station is not that great by itself but sounds pretty decent when I run it through a good preamp/DI. I've had good luck with my Joe Meek but I'm sure it would be even better through other higher end pres.

Re: FMR Audio RNC 1773
Compressing hard rock vocals to tape with RND I use Super Nice Mode and set Ratio 2:1. 3:1 if they are really loud. Set the Attack medium and release medium to medium-long. You'll just have to experiment here depending on your vocalist. It should work great though. I'm not afraid to compress somethi...
