Thanks for the replies so far! I should mention what has worked and hasn't worked in our room: mono at4050 - worked wellish stereo at4033s - too trashy sounding stapes sto2 - rad, but sometimes we record younger drummers and the omnis making it harder to make up for their performance problems during...

Any fundamental difference between the akg 414 versions?
Hi,
I'm in the market for new overheads for digital recording. I'm looking at 414s. I know the tlII/xl2 ones are too bright for overheads, especially in my room, so i'm looking at the xls/uls ones.
Other than the additional pattern options, are there any fundamental differences?
Thanks!

Studios with 1/4" 8 tracks in the PA/NY/NJ area
Hi, A Client of mine wants me to remix a collection of his recordings that were done on 1/4" 8 track machines some years ago. I only have 2" machines here, so I'm looking for a place either a)within 3 hours distance so that we can come and transfer the tape from your machine onto our protools rig or...

I know this has been on other threads, but can someone describe the sound/tone/whatever difference between muting and not muting a bass? My favorite bass sound is the super resonant REM bass sound circa Chronic Town. I'm j ust curious if someone could describe the difference in simple terms so that ...

I have some more information: We notice the problem while getting signals, not just during playback. I'd say it sounds like it's just decaying really quickly, maybe that's what lets the brittle/sharpness dominate I recorded some guitar on it today and then plugged the pres into my ad16x. the tape on...

Problems with Otari MX80
Hi, My partner and I have been having the following problems with my Otari MX80: When we track vocals, they get this very strange warbly distortion. Kind of like a ring modulator sound or a very fast tremolo. Not in a good way at all. We checked the alignment and the machine is properly aligned to +...

Well, it's gone from bad to mindboggling. I reinstalled Windows XP, all my software, all my drivers. Still the same problem. Ran Norton. Found nothing. Opened mixes that worked even a day ago. They don't play without crackling or crashing. Ran defrag. Drives are all below half full and I defragged. ...

As a rule, once you reach 50% of your HDD capacity the performance drops at an accelerated rate. +1. Really worry when you're at 85%+. Are you using an external drive for your tracks? I'm using a 20 gb partition of a 200gb sata drive. it's not the system drive. We made the partition for writing aud...
