the stereo input on your mac is shit. you need a quality converter, and it need only have two channels if you continue to mix analog and just want to bounce to stereo. since you only need two channels, you could even go USB, but I'd recommend firewire. there are options starting with the MOTU Ultral...

this is why i like to use various old omni dynamics right in the center of the kit - it helps me get kick attack, under snare, and often the "note" of the toms.

some of us working digitally actually don't mix or master using WAVs - my version of Digital Performer still uses Sound Designer II files internally.

i never understood the idea of "mixing for X medium." make a good mix on the best speakers you have in the best room you can, and let the listener choose their playback system.
