If the mixes with the old lineup are finished and sound decent, sell those. Lineup changes happen all the time, and bands are always selling music with older lineups, etc. You'll have a reason for people to buy the finished album if they already have the demo e.p. If the bare bones e.p. is what you ...

I asked my bandmates for advice before I asked y'all. This is an important song to me because I've been writing 'fuck yous' for 30 years, and this is the only one to piss anybody off. The main reason I left the vocals relatively dry is because I wanted to retain the feeling of being in a room with s...

How's this for a dry '70s country rock mix.

It's not a period piece, I was shooting for something halfway between "Wildflowers"-era Tom Petty, and any number of '70s bands. With snottier vocals, of course.

Goose, thanks for the advice, I tried something like what you suggest and the bandmates hated it. Sounded good to me, though. Nick, thanks for the vote of confidence. I have no money, no ambitions of fame and fortune, the band broke up, and I'm trying to learn how to do this. I have no ambitions to ...

Ok: I didn't make the end psychedelic, but I did add some delays and tremolos and cleared out some of the gunk. I also made the vocals clearer and a bit louder. I'm realizing something about my voice (at least on the loud songs). It's always gonna sound slightly like it's coming through a bullhorn &...

"I Ain't Got You" by the Yardbirds. The only thing that Eric Clapton has ever done that I've liked. It's concise, well-structured, and it's got a ton of bite.

For the parallel compression, I used the FuzzPlus2 VST fuzz box. It's free. The cool thing about it is that it has a really cool tone knob like a Big Muff or a Rat, and you just turn it where you need for your sound I love parallel with that plug! Instant presence. Nice mix. Performance does lag no...

They've made great sounding music. Plus even when they were on small indie labels, they would reportedly get a recording advance, spend about half of it making a great (and huge) sounding album, and live off the rest between tours. This was their financial survival plan at the time. We're talking ve...

Thanks for all the input Karl. I ended up mixing another take where the drums are just a hair darker and the guitars are a hair quieter, which makes to vocals sound louder. It's not even really different enough to bear listening. http://soundcloud.com/feierman/basted-and-roastingjuly13-5 Part of the...

Since there are no notable songs on the EP, no track listing can be made, although, the first song on the first side is longer than the others and has been played live by Anal Cunt on occasion.

I actually think I may have accidentally bumped the guitars up on this when I went to fix the vocals on the quiet part. Too loud vis-a-vis the drums?

Here's the remix. Either I'm an eager student, or I'm avoiding the stuff I'm really supposed to do. I tried to respond to everyone's input, including keep it the same and make it different. For the parallel compression, I used the FuzzPlus2 VST fuzz box. It's free. The cool thing about it is that it...

Thanks for the input, Dave. Right now I have no capacity to do anything outside the box. It's not even on the agenda until I get monitoring issues sorted out. But I know the kind of sounds you're talking about (longtime musician, new to mixing) & I'll try them out as soon as I get a chance.
