Re: new bands to listen to

Bad Wizard - I've never seen anyone do rock like these guys. check out Free and Easy. www.teepeerecords.com/badwizard/

I second the motion for Candiria. Ken shalk is a sick, sick drummer. check out Beyond Reasonable Doubt. Some seriously freaky metal.

Re: Joe Satriani

I just saw a commercial advertising his new record. I actually took lessons from him before I knew who he was (and fired him when he tried to teach me how to play the shit he's become known for). Does anyone like the way this guy plays? I heard Larry Lalond (from Primus) took lessons from him too, ...

Re: Remember how the Modest Mouse song was in that Nissan ad

The one that always amazes me is Carnival cruise line using Iggy Pop's Lust for life and cutting it off right before the lyric goes "...and beatin my brain, with liquer and drugs." the song in it's entirety doesn't fit at all, but when you just take a small clip it actually works. It's so strange if...

Re: A great HEAD for Distortion

A "Bad Cat" pedal distortion through a Orange amp sounds awesome. The Bad Cat pedal has tubes in it, which make it sound 10 times better. I have a Mesa Boogie Rect-O-Verb and it sounds amazing. Swedish  the bad cat pedal does have a great distortion sound. Very rich, thick and clear. i had o...

Re: Has anyone heard Black Dice?

If you haven't yet, you should. I was just wondering... I saw these guys about 2 years ago in Brooklyn and was very disappointed. Let me see if I can accurately describe the show. There was one guy with a big table in front of him full of electronic gizmos, stompboxes and other various effects. He ...

Re: VON LMO and "crappy" recordings

Hell yeah Guitar Wolf. I really like "Planet of the Wolves" and after seeing them perform live I am convinced that their exteme energy really transfers to the recording well. Same thing with the somewhat similar Teengenerate. Great stuff, but if you made them go into a studio and overdub their part...

Re: is it really quality vs feeling?

i also spent hours listening to bad cassettes, taping "underground" music off the late night radio show-- listening to them till they were worn out. that was the first place i heard pavement, jawbox, thinking fellers union local 282, kmfdm, robyn hitchcock.. all kinds of stuff. i think listening to...

VON LMO and "crappy" recordings

Is anyone familiar with VON LMO? I saw these guys a few years ago at cbgb's. At the time i just thought it was a weird bunch of noise, but i liked it. Just recently i picked up their album "future language", from 1981 i think, and i have to say, it's pretty excellent. The first thing i noticed thoug...
