Re: wow, the new interpol album is complete shit.
What are you people so angry about, really? Interpol made a record and I'm sure they worked hard on it. It is probably the best record they are capable of making right now. And many people will buy it and enjoy it. They will make a bit of money. I'm sure most of you play in bands. I'm guessing that ...

Re: Silly client expressions
Not really meaning to ressurect a dead topic but I had to say this one. This bugs me above all else for some reason. Using the word "base" when they mean "bass." Base guitar, base Drum, "Give me more base! C'mon man, I need more base!!!!" "There's too much base in my voice!" Um...how can yo...

Re: Winer acoustic treatment
I just need some help figuring out a. what the best treatment should I buy/make and b. where should I put it and c. should I reposition my mix station/monitors? Where I have it situated makes the best sense in terms of using my space wisely... Unfortunately, creating a good sounding monitoring envi...

Unless you're talking about the president I think its best to meet people yourself before calling them assholes. Especially people making offbeat and original music.cassettefetish wrote:As people, they are assholes. (Never met them, but anecdotally....)

Re: "Excellent" studios in NYC for $15-25/hr?
The B room at my studio in Brooklyn is $200/$250 a day (Pro Tools/Otari 1/2" 8-track). The A room costs a little more and has a 2" 16 track as well as fancier outboard gear but "excellent" recordings can be made in either room.

Studio lawyer
I have a studio in New York City. We need a lawyer. Is there anybody out there who specializes in representing recording studios? Are there any studio owners here who have found a good lawyer to represent their business?
Thanks,
Charles

Re: The New Cure album
The new Cure album does suck. It's really ashame because Robert Smith is such a talented singer/songwriter/guitarist and is capable of so much more. He just sounds like he has no control over his voice, and everything sounds muddy. Drums/guitars sound like crap. Simon Gallup is their only redeeming...

Re: The Nady RSM-2 Ribbon Mic - Discuss.
"The figure-8 pickup pattern offers extended sweet spots and increased off-axis high frequency reponse on the sides..." ???? In the null? Yeah - WTF? Basically it's an omni? Not so good for Blumlien pair then, I guess. The specs say 165 db SPL handling. What's the ribbon made of, drywall? I'm skept...

I spoke with him once. He was a very friendly guy. We talked about recording - I got the impression that the first record was done very modestly.

Re: Broke-Ass Snare Tone.
A good snare sound is usually a combo of snare, overhead and room mics. Are you just listening to the close mic? This sounds like the answer to your problem. When you put a mic on a drum you are not recording the sound of the whole drum - you are mostly just recording the sound of the drum where th...

FREE stand for Peavey AMR series console, Brooklyn, NY
Hi folks.
The stand is 78" long. It came with an AMR-800 my friend bought but he seems to think it will work for the 1600 as well. It may even work for a different console of similar dimensions.
Come pick it up in Park Slope.
