The nice thing about horn is that all of the sound is directed behind the player. If you find that the horn player is playing too loud and can't adjust, you could try putting some kind of baffle behind the horn. A pillow on a chair with a blanket thrown over it, for example. Unless you have a very l...

as a C1000S owner, I would recommend them. Great on clean guitar amp sounds and drum overheads. Also really great for stereo acoustic or spot micing other acoustic stringed instruments like banjo and mandolin. I have used them a stereo room mics with great results as well. I'm keen to try the MXLs ...

I would like to remove the dropped ceiling tiles, get rid of the flourescent lights, and add some type of insulation to the wooden floor joists so that anyone upstairs wont hear too much sound (something that a future wife would probably appreciate :) These are good things to do for the acoustics o...

Big time!!! However, it is not necessary to have a place specially designed to get a good sound. The main bases to cover are: 1. Low background noise. (traffic, air conditioning, etc) 2. No harmful reflections. (absorption or diffusion where necessary) 3. Appropriate level of reverberation. (absorpt...

Anyway, the pres are fine for high output sounds like electric amps or drum overheads. They just aren't too great with dynamic mics on more acoustic noises. That is when you have to crank the gain and you start getting some noise. Here's the deal. The pres on the 2882 are great, till you get up to ...

I didn't build a frame around the outer edges. Instead, I got 1" X 2" X 8' lengths of pine and cut them so that I could staple together a smaller frame to glue onto the back side of each panel. The frame is about 4" in from each edge and serves as a hanger and gives a little space between panel and...

blunderfonics and stuntbutt are both speaking the truth. concrete definitely will transmit some amount of sound, but it's unlikely that your wall will be so good as to make this a significant factor. in any case, cutting the slab as stuntbutt suggested will take care of this -- but make sure that's ...

By the by, do have a teacher lined up? Cuz that's very important for tabla. Remember that its a classical instrument with a very long (apprenticeship-type) tradition. That might be something that you'd want to look into even before purchasing instruments, cuz a teacher might have some ideas about w...

i suppose it depends what you are trying to get out of your room mics... but my first thought was a pair of small omnis like earthworks or avenson. when i think of a pair of room mics, i think of a tool for getting the most honest, complete picture of what is happening in the room. for some situatio...
