I know nobody wants to hear this since it is way too late, and eveyone is going to say... "Yeah, we know this already...", BUT... With 24-bit digital, there are no reasons to have overs! None! No excuses! With all the headroom available to us now, we don't need to run things so hot. I keep my HIGHES...

My experience tells me that you get what you pay for in most cases, and this is also true with direct boxes. (My OPINION) is that the Behringer and Samson units are not worth the box that they are shipped in. If you are happy with the sound, you have not heard a REAL direct box to compare it to. A/B...

I used to own a 24i/o, but bought the Lynx Aurora-16 right when it first came out about a year ago or so. All I can say is "WOW"! A *huge* sonic improvement. It costs a lot more money, and you get 8 less channels, but for me, it was well worth it. Not that there is anything wrong with the 24i/o, but...

Yeah, it is a common problem, especially with younger, inexperienced drummers... mostly the metalheads and punk bands. They need to learn to hit the drums hard, and the cymbals softer. It takes a lot of years of practice to do it well, but as mentioned, you can coach them a bit. Also, if coaching do...

Personally, I am not a fan of either the I5 or the m201 on the snare... to dark for my tastes. The m201 is a bit boxy-sounding. I love the m201 on other sources (like distorted electric guitars), but even though it seems to be the mic everyone is talking about nowadays for snare, I don't agree. Righ...

I have the Hear Back System, which like the Furman system mentioned above allows the talent to control their own headphone mixes. It is truly amazing, but you do need to have the proper setup to use it correctly, meaning multiple outputs. I have a large analog console that I use to feed it from the ...

There is lots to this topic... lots of ways to go with a response, but let me start here. Mixing is a personal thing as has been mentioned. I am sure we all can agree with that, right? To highlight this, there is an article series in SOS magazine on "Mix Rescue" where a reader will send in his track...

I do the heated coffee can trick. Make sure you heat the sucker up RED HOT so that it goes through cleanly and does so on the first try. I put the drum head on the floor of the garage with the front side facing up. This leaves an air gap below the head that gives the coffee can room to pass through....
