Re: New DAW?

I feel your pain. I'm doing a mix in Pro Tools right now and its goes great for a while, then I hit something stupid, google, find the answer and move on. So yeah, a little painful to go slow but I see an upside if I can get through it.

Re: Mono Auratone - who knew??

Starting mixing on a mono auratone changed my mixing life. I work so much faster and better because of it. Do you guys start the mix on the auratones? So far I’ve just been popping in and out to check things but the next track I do from scratch o think I’m gonna start there as an experiment and jus...

Re: New DAW?

Yeah man, if you are open to learn then maybe give reaper another shot and just follow along with some tutorials. I used Logic for a long time before I finally buckled down and started to make my life easier by actually learning it. Now I am basically just taking all the shortcuts I loved in Logic a...

I really need to lose the buss numbers and go into the I/O set up and just give the buss routing "names" so it's easier to organize.
Dude that is awesome, thank you for the screenshots!

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

I don't know if plugins count as "new gear" but I gotta say that the Kazrog True Iron and True Dynamics plugs are fucking tasty. I've still not messed with "HEAT" but i've been throwing True Iron on individual tracks as well as busses, and really like the subtleness. I've also been stacking instanc...

Re: New Pro Tools, who dis? "FREEZE"

I love logic and it's definitely better at some things for sure, but the buss situation ain't one of them. I finally built myself a nice mixing template to use as a starting point and that was when I really figured out how like you just can't do certain things once you've committed. Hey on that, I h...

Re: Mono Auratone - who knew??

I had a pair of the Avantone "auratones" and just couldn't get them to work for me. I do much better using my old boombox with a line in for "real world" or "crappy speaker" test. I"m sure they could have been "broken in" more, for they just seemed "stiff" and shitty. A single mono one makes more s...

Re: New Pro Tools, who dis? "FREEZE"

Yeah, I don't do subscription anything, so I am not sure if I'll end up doping a perpetual license or what. What is the cost of the support thing for a year? Honestly, other than some just plain stupid stuff, like not being able to arrow up and down between tracks and having to create a group every ...

Re: New Pro Tools, who dis? "FREEZE"

So I dove into the monthly subscription for now and I am really digging it. The playlist comping is unbelievably easy, especially for drums. Anyway to your post I went through all the Avid plugins and found a few that were pretty great. The Mooger Fooger, Real Tape effects, the Studio Reverb actuall...

Re: New DAW?

Dude, I started on Cool Edit Pro like a 25 years ago? That’s amazing you are still using it. I dug it back in the day, but once I tried Cubase I didn’t look back. I tried Reaper a few years ago and felt the same way. But everyone raves about it. Since you are PC that kills garage band, logic and Lun...

Mono Auratone - who knew??

I’ve always had a little set of computer speakers sitting right next to each other on my left side. This was my - mono / vocal & snare level / can I hear the bass and bass drum in tiny speakers - reference. Several months ago I bought some Auratones and I liked them, but I wasn’t using them much. Ma...

Re: Channel Strip Plugins

Another really good one if you have an Apollo is the UAD Century Tube channel strip. It has a mic pre, a subtle EQ and an opto compressor. I've been using that lately at home for vocals and acoustic instruments. That opto strip is really good, I’ve used that for some thin vocals and it’s nice. That...

Re: Channel Strip Plugins

It’s funny, as much as I bitch about not having a console and how fast I could mix with those limitations, I’ve never really jived with channel strip plugins. I bought the Plugin Alliance SSL E and J when they were in sale, and I have the Lindell and the UAD API. I created a template with the SSL on...
