Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....
Always the struggle! So far it’s got the Burls awesome heft but with an extended top end. Now I get where that whole red silk thing from my RND 542s comes from. Then you add the EQ and it’s really incredible for the price. The Burl distorts maybe a bit better when really pushed, but I don’t have a ...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....
Well dammit, all this 1073 talk got me. I found a really good deal on a mint used AML ez1073. Gonna be doing a bunch of testing against my Burl to see how it compares.
First impressions are sounding good.

Re: The bottom of the snare
I always mic the bottom. If I get tracks from somebody with no mic on the bottom I re-amp the snare track with a snare drum sitting on top of a Fender Pro Jr and mic the snares there. I almost always have an 1176 plug on the bottom snare fast attack/slowest release. I'm gonna try that compression i...

This is another pre I’ve been thinking about. I’ve heard nothing but good things about it.

Oh that’s interesting. I was reading that going Ethernet into the PC and having to the virtual sound card negates some of the benefits of Dante as opppses to using a PCIe card.
So that hasn’t been your experience?

OMG yes. That’s another consideration. With my desk my iMac sits higher than I’d like and I can’t wait to get a tv on the wall at the right height.

Re: 1073's... Real deal or one of the many clones?
I really should just buy a couple of these. https://www.seventhcircleaudio.com/product-page/sca-n72-500-series-microphone-preamp-module It really is a fantastic sounding pre. Or that’s how I remember it, it was my first nice pre. I’d love to hear one now and compare it to some of the modern offerin...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....
Ok, the Benson is also awesome. Right? I have the studio plugin version, there is a guitar one as well I think. I wanted the real thing, but I they were so backlogged with orders they weren’t making any and the few I found were hella expensive used. While looking I came across the plugin and though...

Re: Size Matters!
In the past I had two smaller monitors up close, one for the edit screen and one for the mixer, which was cool. Then I went to one decent size tv, like 40” maybe, a bit further back on an arm. Now I’m on a 27” iMac. I do miss the bigger screen. I have been on a monitoring (speaker) set up mission of...

I’d actually really like to hear the undertone pre’s and Eqs. I see that unfairchild in a lot

Re: 1073's... Real deal or one of the many clones?
I think with anything that is truly vintage (like a real 1073 from a console) you are going to have maintenance - recapping, replacing pots, any other mechanical parts (buttons, etc.). I love vintage gear and I also hate vintage gear (if it's not working). Sometimes the clones are really good, or g...

Re: Tracking bands without a console is a PITA!
So this looks like just the ticket. https://en.antelopeaudio.com/products/orion-studio-synergy-core/ These are on reverb for around $1200 and the synergy core sounds like the Apollo except with additional or the same 16 analog ins and outs for cheaper. Onboard DSP for low latency etc. Dante seems su...

Re: Tracking bands without a console is a PITA!
Are you using PCIe cards with your Rednet, I assume? With my Mac that’s not currently option. Although there is an RME Dante that is USB apparently.
