Data? Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! With my apologies to bobbydj, I'm about to get pedantic. Very pedantic. Fuck, doctrinaire. Dogmatic. Okay, I'll play in the pedantic arena. You are not putting data on analog tape! You are making an electromagnetic imprint directly proportional to the...

I believe that, in most places, the neutral tied to ground is REQUIRED by code, unless you have a balanced power transformer rig. Any and all ground stakes beyond are also required to be tied to the main ground and neutral.

I find the price variations to be pretty minimal. Usually free shipping or not is the biggest difference.

Transformers are not the only choice, but might be the best. Way back in the old days, Craig Anderton did a diy column for Guitar Player. Among the projects was a splitter/buffer. The thing as designed was only 2 channels, but could probably be modified easily for more. I think it was in his, Electr...

For the 441 Sen sells a hard rubber mount, much like the standard Shure clips. The 421 still needs a better solution. Yeah, but they want $35 for it, and $60-something for the clear plastic one that disintegrates with age. That's what set my wheels in motion. I do recall that they were absurdly exp...

Value is in the ear of the beholder, and whatever makes the client happy and represents what you are trying to say (musically, etc.) is the right gear. I have found that bargains rarely are, and that it is cheaper to get the right piece of gear the first time around, if you can. Substitutes are jus...

Would I love to have a rack full of every preamp ever made? Of course. Would it make my job easier? Yes. Could I justify the expense? Not in this lifetime. Of course there are those who can, and I'm happy for them, but that's not the world 99.99% of us live in. Actually, it'd probably make your lif...

Re: Compressor stomp boxes!

1) what's your favorite stomp box compressor for guitars? (think first in chain). please list the style of music you're doing and why you love it! Ibanez CP-9: Nice sustain and a bit of treble boost. Aphex Punch Factory: As close to a good box as I have found. Adds a bit of drive. Barber Tone Press...

They are incredibly good at what they do, which is a clean sound, with chorus or not. Contrary to the opinion presented above, I think they do take pedals pretty well, but they will reveal the bad sides of pedals mercilously. The single speaker versions are useless, as the chorus only sounds good wi...

Pretty much if you're comfortable the gear and the instruments will be as well. Extremes of humidity will be bad for wooden instruments, at either end. What really does the damage though, is fluctuations especially if they are acompanied by temp fluctuations. That's where condensation gets to be a l...
