one thing to watch out for is the dreaded AC (or arguably the ground) loop buzz that you get when you plug a laptop into any amplifier. There are some topics posted about this, but I haven't read anything with a definitive solution. yuck

Sonar 3 mixdown question

so, I am running into some trouble with Sonar and mixing my 24 bit audio down to a 16 bit wav file to put on to a CD My first question is : is there an easy way to bounce right down to CD in Sonar? I would think there would be, as the cheap program that I used to use had that feature... That would b...

Re: screamo bands make me nuts

I've worked with a couple of screaming bands... the thing that they both seemed to have in common was that screaming to record looked about the equivalent to wearing a speedo. It took a while to get used to it, especially with other people in the room, and if something was the slightest bit off, eve...

fools us (some of us) AND makes us give premature responses before getting to the end of the 17 PAGE THREAD because we (I) are (am) just too damn impatient.

Brilliant.

Seriously though, lay off vegans.

Re: This shit don't PLAY in L.A. homies

You're right. I'm not yet a washed up 49 year old hipster with a fat gut who stinks of vegan gyros and congratulates himself on "keeping it real" in the broom closet he calls home among all the other black-haired, leather wearing transvestite vampires that make up the NY scene. Alright, why does ev...

Re: Silly Newbie question...but Fun!

They must autotune the hell out of the vocals on Flaming Lips albums. But they stil sound good. Really? I always thought Coyne was regularly out of tune - though not in a bad way... Listen to "buggin" on the soft bulletin. The backing vocals are autotuned to hell. I must admit though, it's one of t...

Re: Clear Channel

sorry. I was misinformed. Apparently the list was one guys idea, was never backed by the company and never actually went into effect. Still gives you an idea of much people can over react though. LOOK at some of those songs! STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN, FOR CHRISTSAKE! Banned from a guitar store, fine, but b...

Re: Clear Channel

woah. Tapeop goes political. I like it. (tapeop with a message, I mean. not clear channel) While we're on the topic, here's a horrifying story. A while back I read about a memo that got out from someone in clear channel saying something along the lines of "if we don't report first on the war in Iraq...

my new headphones saved my life

well, not really. But they are really sweet. Just picked up a pair of Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO/80 headphones and they really are amazing. I guess they should be for 200 beans. Great improvement from my Sony MDR-7506s. Gotta love having 5 hz frequency response in your cans. Too bad I'm listening to a ...

how about those guys is right.

then again, I didn't have even a low budget video put out with my band in it when I was 7.

One that I would later look back on and want to kill whoever reassured me that it was good.

Re: bands that make you want to vomit...

You know who else I hate? New Found Glory. That super nasal, auto-tuned-to-hell voice, combined with the world's most generic pop-rock backing just makes me want to claw my own cochleas out and spray oven cleaner into the holes. :x |<|>| wait, wait, wait. Are you saying that new found glory uses an...

Re: bands that make you want to vomit...

I sure do love both Geddy Lee, and Rush... Unfortunately, we only need one of each. Sorry Claudio and co. Coheed and Cambria does have this really great groove that they get into once in a while where melodies are really catchy and the arrangement just makes you want to dance... but most of the time...

Re: stereo overheads, cymbals & 3:1

justin, you asked before I could. it seems that this "3:1 ratio" is pretty common knowledge... unfortunately, no one has ever shared it with me.

Also, about the pushin' record thing, I always thought the same thing. That really made me chuckle.
