I have an old Shure hi-z mic that I keep around just for running into ad-hoc PA's and such. Its great for "band practice" situations where you just want to quickly plug in to whatever's available to use. Its got its own funky lo-fi vibe as well. I think it might be a 585. It actually gets plugged in...

Sounds like the "spam cans" are almost as toxic as actual spam. I once got paid to do spam sculture at a public event. I surprised at how it burned my hands. Still havent passed audio through it yet. Will do it this weekend. Good idea to meter it though, before connecting it to valuable gear. So is ...

Well, looks like there is not much inside besides a bunch of cans of spam and some weird old glass bottles from overseas. Does anyone know what the spam cans are? There are about 15 tubes in all, eight of which are 12ax7's two are 12au7's, one is a 12 ay7 and the other three are odd sized ones (in t...

Cool old tube based band pass filter
Has anyone ever run into one of these? Its a Krohn-Hite 330BR Band-Pass Filter. Picked this up today at the state surplus warehouse, so I am thinking it just came out of some laboratory closet. Haven't tested it out yet, but it looks to be in good, clean condition and it is full of tubes. If it is w...

I took Nate up on the neck, and it ended up being a great move. What didn't expect was how much it affected the tone. Much clearer and with better sustain. With the bridge pickup it almost sounds like a baritone. I am thinking that has something to do with the steel stiffening rods in the warmoth ne...

EV's model names have been weird and (at least seemingly) arbitrary from the beginning. For example: RE20 = PL20 (along with a bunch of other mics where the RE and PL models differed only in paint color) BUT then, the PL10 is not at all an RE10. The RE10 however is basically an RE15. The RE11 and R...

After shipping and getting the nut installed, it would run about $220 Did you include the finish in that, or are you going to finish it yourself? I've got a Warmoth jazz neck on my P-Bass, with the narrower width at the nut (1.5"). It's a great neck, just too narrow for my gigantic hands, so I've b...

Neck replacement for Fender Jazz Bass
I have a MIM jazz bass with a crap neck that I want to replace. Why not get a whole new bass? Because it already has Duncan Vintage Stack pickups and a Leo Quan Badass bridge and the sound is pretty good, minus some dead spots on the neck. The real deal killer is the truss rod is about shot, so I pr...

I just re-uploaded the vocal files. The first set were distorted due to user error. I agree that the EZ1290 is coolest sounding of the bunch, but I do give the edge on acoustic guitar to the b12a. I may have to build an EZ1290 of my own. It absolutely kills on vocals (when not using a Pro 37). FWIW,...
