Without the exact same start time and clock, a null test won't tell one anything. ...and thus, the null test is rendered useless because it's not testing for a 'real-time' phenomena. ' Um, a null test can only work when clock and start time are identical. Otherwise, even if the two sources are 100%...

The issue I tested for was simply to see if a bounce-to-disk or a re-record internally to a track yielded the same data. They did. I don't know about this 'hold down the mouse over the plugin' thing, never heard of it before, and I imagine that if it's true that a plugin somehow changes its math whe...

The way MP3 (and lossless in general) encoding works, the lower the dynamic range of the source, the harder it is to encode without audible artifacts. Same goes for re-encoding, so that's why brick-wall-limited-to-death stuff might tend to sound worse on the MySpace player. One way to find out if a ...

That delta function is interesting. I wonder why, though, that "reality" on the 'scope' has distortion both following, and especially preceding the pulse? Ahhh, sir, because that's what a sinc() function looks like. See Dan Lavry's excellent paper . Frankly, from your description of the delta funct...

Ah! -9 is a little hot, on average, but can be done without totally destroying a record, depending on the source material. Also, like I mentioned before, it's also on how you measure the RMS level. Is it across the whole song (or album!?) or just the "louder bits" that it gets there. IM(not-so-H)O i...

That delta function is interesting. I wonder why, though, that "reality" on the 'scope' has distortion both following, and especially preceding the pulse? Frankly, from your description of the delta function (obviously within the paramaters of 96k 16 bit data) the display on my editor was exactly wh...

Dealt with this years ago. One bounce done bounce-to-disk. Another to an open track. Aligned to the sample, one inverted in polarity. Total cancellation. Good enough for me. So, why, then, so many hear a difference? I say it's during the bounce itself, the software deprioritizes the audio output str...

I read your FAQ. Its a good one! I would be pissed if it was stolen too. Looks like you put a lot of time into it. Thanks! :D I did. When we first revamped the site - years ago - I had more spare time and really spent time on the text, the content there. Although technically a work in progress (sho...
