If Melodyne DNA can identify individual notes in a mix (see the Music Messe vid where they change a Chet Baker solo in a group recording) then perhaps...

We've had a comp/limiter between the cable box and the stereo here for years, to mitigate that crap. (The "compressor" in the Motorola cable boxes sounds horrific, BTW. Not that anyone would expect otherwise.)

I met the guy building these a few years ago... nice man. http://www.lasermetronome.com/ (EDIT: The site says temporarily out of stock. :( ) I built a simple box myself to flash a lamp when an audio signal (click track) crosses a threshold... basically an SCR/Triac type circuit from a kit (Google "c...

It's not the plugin per se that I'm referring to, but simply hitting a preset and saying 'done'... at least consider tweaking.

But I know what you mean. When something works, it works.

No offfense, but presets can be a starting point , and sure, once in a while might be just right, but really... Seriously, if you start with a preset, and it works, fine. Bonus! But take a moment and evaluate what it's doing, and really think if adjusting something might make it better. Dimes...

I generally commit the fade out (or even in, if it's that kinda thing) so I get the curve that I think is appropriate, leaving a little extra at the very tail for flexibility - better too long than too short. I do these in stems, so if the ME wants a non-faded version it's easy to accomodate. Commit...

Something I've heard done a lot is not a steady tone, but a falling tone. When asked to do that, I've programmed a synth with a filter set to self-oscillate, modulated by an envelope to 'dive' and then tuning the cutoff nice and low. Sometimes a little bit of a pitch rise before the fall caused by t...

For the record, my last post in this thread was not anti-home-mastering nor pro-"pro"-mastering - just simply a call to really, carefully, evaluate - on a case-by-case basis - what you're doing when "releasing" your works into the world. And to use whatever resources you have (however teensy or copi...

I'll try to reinforce a concept put forth here already: you often only get one chance to woo a new fan with your music. If they are put off the first time around when they hear you, they're gonna be that much less likely to try again. So why cut corners?
