Focal Spirit Pro Headphones

https://reverb.com/item/5518887-focal-spirit-professional-headphones-2017-black $270 with shipping if you are in the US. This is a replacement pair I received from Focal when the headphone on my pair cracked. So this won't have any warranty for you even though they are in a sealed box. I'm pricing ...

Ordinary Neighbors present "The Necessary Dark"

I was tempted to note Tape Op in my 'thanks' space on the liner notes. I've been working on this record slowly and cautiously for some seven years. It documents most of my learning curve in the studio....not that it is any kind of engineering genius. I want to thank Larry and all those who contribut...

Some interesting thoughts. I'm spending so much more on this other ME that I don't know if I can afford kicking the others an honorarium. This would be an interesting discussion: why would they offer on spec if there is a worry about being burned? I did give them almost a month or more (can't rememb...

Picking an ME, my learning curve

I've just finished a project I've been tweaking on the side for some six years. It's a very personal record written with my wife and tracked with lots of friends. It could be considered a document of my learning curve in mixing during all these years. Even though its no mind blowing mix, I've enjoye...

Thanks. I'm not brave I guess. Got to find a tech in West Michigan.

I did realize that the reset button can get me by for awhile. Duh. But I bet overusing that'll wear something else out.

I read somewhere that Tchad Blake like to do drums in the smallest, most dead rooms. That gave me the nudge to keep trying drums in this silly sized tracking room here at the college. It's about 8x10 and seemed too big for a vocal booth and too small for drums. If you can move some gobos and any oth...

Otari 5050 transport repair?

Its an old mx5050 8 track. The stop button works when in play, but it doesn't when ff or rew.

Any quick obvious tweak to fix or do I need to hunt down someone who really knows these things?

Does headroom as you're describing it actually exist in digital files? I mean, once you send the files to the ME, if he needed the audio to peak at a lower level he could just turn it down and re-render (or some similar process) right? This is an honest question, not trying to be snarky or anything...

^^^ yes...after working on these files off and on for to many yeas, I was tempted to just go ahead and print them as is. But, I was too curious to see what I might gain by bringing the level down by trimming each track. And it's been a great lesson. Plus, I'm splurging with a more expensive ME and i...

I trim all my mixes now by 10db or so depending on how it was recorded. This project just became a monster over the years. There is a huge thread on GS that is basically about where unity should be ITB. Kind of a headache of a read, but yeah....everything opens up better if I'm not peaking higher th...

File Prep for Mastering...getting headroom

Trying to finish a project I've messed with for six years on and mostly off! With 10-12 mixes per song, I've not done a good job of watching my overall levels. I've tried it by trimming -10db on each track. It gets tricky with subgroups that have a compressor. But then if i just lower the buss of a ...

Either no one has tried this (which seems surprising)

Printing Mix to 8 Track Otari 5050

I know I should just give it a try, but before I get into it...I thought I'd see if anyone has experience or thought of what I should consider. I really like printing my digital mixes over to 2 tracks of my 8, but thinking that it is more ideal to print to a 2 track 1/2 instead........what about sen...
