Rackmount computer chassis for portale rig.

I was looking at the Antec Take 4 but it's 20.5" deep. The SKB gig rig rack that I'm looking at is only 17" deep. The shortest I have found thus far is 17.7" and it's from a terrible company.

What are you using for a case or a rack that will work together?

It's a hard habit to break, and one I still work on. When something works it's an easy trap to fall into the next time that scenario comes up. This includes plugins but trickles down to mic choice, placement, and the sounds that you work on in the room. I'm just to the point where I can let go of my...

I pretty much agree with this. I can usually part with $100 pretty easily, much more and I go in to bargain hunting mode.

The Massey plugins are an great example of this. Easy to try, easy to buy, and under $100. I used the demos on the first day of a session and bought them that night. He gets it.

It will probably go into savings (since you really have to pay it back anyway as far as I can tell), or some nice Scotch. These stimulus checks make me think of the swindlers at check cashers, title loan and refund loan "business". It's preying on the insecurities of the less wealthy section of our ...

I just start rolling. As soon as someone says, "We're going to run through this so we know we have it." I hit record. I think that it's only been worthwhile once but disk space is cheap right? I have threatened to keep it going except when i change I/O settings. Think of the amazing things you may c...

We ran in to a batch of Plextor CD-RW/DVD+-RW drives that a firmware flaw that prevented them from working on some boots. There were no plans for a fix even though it was a known problem.

I bought an 8 space Gator a while back. It has rollerblade wheels on one end and an expandable handle on the other. It's pretty handy.

For a rockabilly slap sound I've stuck an MK319 right at the f-hole near the top curl. I tweaked it a bit with Dominion from DigitalFishPhones to emphasise the sustain or the slap.

There isn't a good way to mount the 1814. I used some industrial strength velcro to put it on rack mount shelf that was meant for those little Alesis things (Microlimiter, nanoverb, etc). The rest of that shelf has a USB hub, also attached with velcro, that I plug in an iLok when I use Pro Tools. I ...

The Fender Hot Rod series are just great in my opinion. I've had a Hot Rod Deluxe for many years ... and through many styles. The clean channel with the bright switch in sound nearly identical to a Deluxe Reverb. The Reverb is not as "drippy." The major flaw the amp has is the lack of a footswitch f...

Screw the opening act gigs and make sure you're at the top of the bill. Move to Kansas City. You can have all the headlining gigs you want! Bands do every thing they can to not play last around here. No matter how many people show up by the last band . . . they are gone. Bars haven't noticed that y...

Don't give up on your kit yet. I picked up one of the little Gretsch Catalina Club kits. It's the small kit with the 18" kick. I chose this one because a) I don't play drums seriously, b) it was just at $400 and c) it looks cool as hell. The drummer I've been playing with has a custom KC Drumworks k...

It's been great for me. It definitely gets loud! Louder than the headphone outs on a MOTU 828 or M-Audio FW1814 by far.

In KC there's a storage space that's climate controlled and known for having bands rehearse there. Not just suburban "christian metal bands," bands that have mattered. There is no news in this article to a musician, but to a regular person this is something that they have likely never seen and never...
