Yeah. I dont know if it is the drive tho. Its totally buggin' out, as it is actually moving files from other songs into the recorders other songs. I hear acoustic guitars from years ago on what I am working on! I will try to reformat the drive and whatnot and see if that works...anyway, I was lookin...

DAW just bit the dust. Now what?

Hi all. I had a yamaha AW16G I got when I was in high school, like 7 years ago I'd say. It recently died. Learned everything on it, learning used it with very high end outboards too (Lexicon, TC, Universal Audio, manley, studer reels, etc)...anyway.. The hard drive has stopped functioning propertly....

FS: Marshall JCM800 2x12" 50W combo. Vertical inputs!!!

This is the real thing. A Marshall JCM800 from 1983-84. No fx look, one channel, master volume, and the very rare vertical inputs. This is just all tone, balls to the wall Marshall crunch that will pin anyone to the floor. One of the loudest amps ive ever heard. It's a combo, 2x12" speakers, 50W. th...

FS: Revox B77, 1/4" 2-track 15IPS Stereo tape deck

This is the real deal here. 1/4" and the REAL 15/7.5IPS version. Not the slow one that everyone has. Nobody is crazy enough to sell the 15IPS version like I am.In great condition, records fine, plays fine. Gets great saturation too, set up for 456. Please make an offer. This unit is heavy so I am no...

Keep it simple, always. Nobody has time to read stuff they don't care about. When you think of a resume, you should think of a 'snapshop' of that person. Think of a press kit! It should be simple. IMO, 5 pages seems rediculous. perhaps you DO have that much experience, which is great, but you can pr...

Whoa, whoa! First of all, I never tried to offend anyone so I am sorry if I came across that way. Second of all, the man stated his son wanted a JOB and and I was very honest with how finding a JOB goes. If you wanted to be a mixing or recording engineer sure you might not need schooling. But what ...

So, with that said, if i was an employer I would surely like to know.. What school did your son go to, what degrees does he have? What was his GPA? What types of activities has he done? Being talented is one thing, but most of the time, if you don't have a degree, you are going to be fucked. There ...

Look, I have to step in here. I am 21 years old, and I find this post extremely not only weird and disturbing, but almost offensive... I am among the youngest group in tapeop, I am a college student, taking out ridiculous loans to try to, hopefully, someday, make a living.honestly, without sounding ...

Good points. Which reminds me that getting the phase right on the entire kit can sometimes be hard. Like Chris says, mess around and experiment. Everyone's techniques are different, but for me, less is more. Many mics get confusing  best of luck

PS, dont forget to flip the phase of the snare mics :D do i only have to do this if i mic the top and bottom? i've recorded drums in the past ... but believe it or not ... never messed with the phase :(. Well if you record one source with two mics from different direction, one of the phases of the ...

I would recommend the Royer 121 for the room mic, and if you get too much noise, move it around. I have had luck using the Royers for this type of thing. I mean, there is no 'one' microphone, but that has worked with me. Also, it's important (very) to not use TOO much room sound. A little will go a ...

Re: Sound Like Water

I have a request to process background vocals to "sound like water." Interesting request. Any thoughts? almost always the 'water' sound means a flanger. It typically yields a very dreamy sound, especially with a chorus. Think -the keyboards on 'no quarter' (thats the classic example) -the intro gui...

Re: Analog Recording?

Everybody in audio engineering says that analog is the way to go to achieve a deep natural sound, but in reality 99% of engineers use digital. Why don't engineers just have a basic recorder for rehearsing takes and then once they are ready they use all analog based audio interfaces/amps/mixers? hav...
