Manufacturers who have reps that are willing to lend gear to prospecitve customers are not common in the MI industry. It happens on occasion, but you will find the same rules apply to most gear, and this is in no way exclusive to Apogee. The red carpet treatment is rare, especially if you're spendin...

Go with what you know. Hmmm... Portland OR may be an exception here. Totally go after theater jobs. Full force. Tooth and nail. But Portland is tough. I suggest going after anything. Bag groceries. Wash dishes. Be the guy who prepares the big vat of tuna fish at 6AM. Any job that pays money is wort...

Welp... Apple released an update to Logic yesterday. Looks like there's life in it yet: http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1014 I know that a lot of video editors initial reaction to FCPX is negative, but I'm going to wait and see where things are a year from now. I kind of have a hunch that things will ...

I tested out the new MOTU MicroBook with Volta

I had the chance this week to test out the new MOTU MicroBook with Volta. The MicroBook is a USB audio interface, and Volta is a plug-in that sends control voltage out of the outputs of an audio interface and into the CV inputs of an analog synth. I made a video of the test: www.sam-mallery.com What...

I can assure you that the sound quality does not bite. It sounds pretty darn good, considering that it plugs into a mobile phone. Perhaps the type of person who plays a boutique amp with a boutique guitar and has boutique ears wouldn't be happy with it, but I think it's pretty sweet.

Testing out the new iRig on Guitar, Bass, and Analog Synth

I've been messing around with the iRig, and last night I tried it out with a few different instruments. I video taped it and youtubeized it. Check it out: http://www.sam-mallery.com/ For $40, I think this thing is pretty sweet to have around. The app sounds pretty nice, and I can only imagine it wil...

I love love love love love Phoenix's Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix. But... That kick drum "wolfs" waaaay too much for my tastes. I have a Genelec 7050B sub in my DAW monitoring system, and the BOOM BOOM BOOM gets in the way of the music. I admit, my room is not at all tuned, and my sub could probably use...

Thats an interesting "solution" to a "problem" nobody seemed to have anywhere on earth. I wonder what the real story is,,? I have many times had a XLR/Mic output mismatch where for some reason a certain mic wont completely (click) with a certain XLR. I just try another XLR until I find the right on...

A head's up to anyone who buys a new Rode mic...

New R0DE mics are shipping with an unusual spacer ring that may prohibit an XLR connector from securing into the mic. The ring is installed in the output of the mic.
