Re: 4 track --> wobbly recording sound?
Are you using a brand-new cassette, or an old used one?

Could definitely be the take-up reel. It won't "play" if the take-up reel is snagging. Order this brand-new take-up reel - http://www.usrecordingmedia.com/quan12x105pl.html

Re: Looking for a turntable... Direct or Belt drive?
Direct is more for DJing, but if you're only using it to listen to records, go belt - any direct drive turntable you buy (in a nutshell) will be designed for DJing - I like mine, a belt-driven TechnicsSL-BD22, super features, super dependable.

You can always overdub the crowd later, complete with cheers and singalongs. The Wembley crowd plugin should be coming out later this year. . .

They just got their web-site up and thought, what the heck, at least someone should see it. Definitely not complete, but there nonetheless. . .

To hell with NR. Don't use it. Try yourself without, and you will see. . .

Re: Open Reel 4 Track Recomendations???
I would like to pick up a really nice 4 track. Half inch at the least. No body ever made a 1", did they? TASCAM has quietly started manufacturing the previously discontinued 34B, 4 track reel to reel recorder because of consumer demand based mostly on older folks like us who don't want buy older, w...

Re: A hassel?
Of course, when you experience 8-track analog tape, you'll want more tracks. But there are easy round-about ways of fixing that nowadays. In the end, find a machine you like, that sounds good, that performs well, regardless of the tracks. Use it to its fullest, make a mix, then make a stereo mix int...

Re: recording an acoustic guitar trio
You should definitely get a room sound, though keep in mind the room you've got. I would definitely think Kingston Trio, even if they are "emo." The early Simon and Garfunkel recordings were cool, as they got everything as it was: Garfunkel's vocal on the left, Paul's vocal on the right. The guitar ...

Re: Production tricks that create emotional responses
The really cool things are the ones that can only be done once. I had a band of teenagers in once. They were doing a song called "Alien," that had a break down with the 'vocalist' singing "Do you feel like an Alien?" So I told them to get on their cell phones and call as many people as they could g...

Re: what does a denoiser do?
like Dolby B or C, only more expensive. Well, it does more, sure, but the point is the same: remove the unwanted noise. But that unwanted noise is what's current, like that guy's post about Alesis reverb and the 80s. Ah, it's a piece of gear. It will prove useful! Use it as it wasn't meant to be use...

Re: stupid, stupid, stupid, speaker question
Yes, the low, muddy sound I was speaking of was of my own damn fault. I had the "loudness" button pressed in, which is really a bass-boost. I always kept it on when listening through the bookshelf speakers. . ."loudness" is no good with big tower speakers.

Re: Tascam 38 Users
you should try recording with NR off just for the heck of it, if you never have. you might be surprised at how much better it sounds. if you think about the 80s when the 38 came out, certainly, NR was the thing to be had. But, it really did take away from the naturalness (that's not a word, I know) ...

stupid, stupid, stupid, speaker question
i got these speakers, they are floorstanding speakers. they have two speaker connections - i installed in both the first and bottom connection, but both sound very bassy and not very trebly. i have a pair of bookshelf speakers that sound fabulous and very equal as far as treble and bass goes. the ne...
