Re: Coronavirus Health Precautions for Studios

There’s an interesting discussion over on the PRW Production forum about this. Normally I wouldn’t link to a different forum but there’s some valuable info there from folks running lager scale operations than many of us. A few posters lay out the difficulties and risks better than I could - https://...

Re: Coronavirus Health Precautions for Studios

Thanks. She's doing alright. We're 5 years in and she's stable and healthy. I'm eternally thankful for Canadian healthcare and the fact that we live 10 mins away from one of the world's top cancer research hospitals. Things could be worse. That said though, no sessions at my place for who knows how ...

Re: Coronavirus Health Precautions for Studios

I'm starting to get into the same situation here. Recording studios were permitted to reopen last week and I've already had some calls about it. I'm in no rush at all though. My room (a repurposed garage) is too small to effectively distance and the washroom facilities are in my house. Beyond that, ...

Re: DI bass and guitar

That Ext Amp jack is a bit odd - certainly when seen from the perspective of today, with our TRS "insert points" that are an input and an output hidden on one plug. That Ext Amp isn't one of those. It's just a point in the heart of that circuit between the preamp and power amp. If you plug into it,...

My tech is saying that I only need a stereo cable to connect to the EXT AMP out and then one of the L or R will provide the connection at the other end.
Interesting. It's running like an insert connection then.

Re: DI bass and guitar

Hmmmm (again). It should be an unbalanced connection. I wonder if the later models implimented an insert style jack there. What happens if you pull the cable out half way like you can with a trs jack? Also, what era is yours? The only manual I can find online is for the heritage B15. It has the ext ...

Re: DI bass and guitar

Hmmmm. I’m not sure. You’re sure your plugged into the ext. amp jack not ext. speaker? The external amp out just taps into the pre-amp-power amp connection. Apparently you can also feed signal to the power amp by plugging in there as well. What’s the rest of the chain? You’ll need to run to a DI and...

Re: Coronavirus Plans (what are yours?)

MS Teams was making me crazy but I've figured out how to do want I was after with Google Meet. Not sure how it would work for writing/playing together remotely. I'm sure there's latency. For what I'm trying to do at the moment, watch a video and discuss with my partner as it plays, it seems alright.

Re: DI bass and guitar

I've never owned one but have recorded a bunch of them. Almost every one I've tracked has been a bit rattle-y and the speakers have had various degrees of farty-ness. The heads always sound great but the cab and speaker are often really beat. Once in a blue moon I record one that's in great shape an...

Re: DI bass and guitar

It's pretty good but I think the B15 pre-amp is where the real mojo is in that chain. Between the two I'm able to flip switches and turn knobs in real time until I get what I want. It's a godsend when I'm mixing other people's DI bass tracks too. hey Dave - any tips on how to use a B15 head in this...

Re: Coronavirus Plans (what are yours?)

Update: I'm gonna spend as much studio time with my daughter as possible —  https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/49934616803_57e86b940b_c.jpg ...and then maybe I'll re-build some acoustic treatments for this room This place needs a like button. This is awesome! I'm in the midst of trying to figure o...

Re: Inexpensive options & recommendations for talkback

I've had consoles with talkback built in but I still usually just wire up my own. Any mic into a pre and then into the pro tools session feeding the headphone mix (but not the two mix). Even better if the mic has a switch. A CB mic is great for this and fun. If the mic has no switch I use the Massey...

Re: Latest Gear You've Un-Acquired....

I'm probably somewhere around the same, although I've lost count. I don't necessarily feel like I have too many but there are some that I would happily swap for something different. Or more realisticly I'll probably just buy more.

Mics are my biggest gear vice.
