Re: The bottom of the snare
I reca roscoenyc as a long-time proponent of The Pro,Jr., using them ( a pair, I think?) on stage with Earle. I think his might have been goosed, as, I believe, were Jeff Beck's. Lovely amp, awesome pedal platform but good sounding on it's own when ya want that just-at-breakup sound, it's perhaps l...

Re: widening stereo sources in a mix
I remember Chris Shaw mentioning a plugin that allows you to check to see if tracks are really stereo. You might search for that. Any phase meter plug will show you. I use stereo tool when I get a mix that's all stereo tracks. Sometimes looking at the waveform makes it obvious sometimes not. That's...

Re: widening stereo sources in a mix
A really short stereo delay can help (along the lines of the ableton haas delays you mentioned). I generally use different times on each side and usually set the ms rate in the teens or twenties. A good small room reverb can also be a big help. I have a few roll your own IRs that I use on acoustic i...

Picked up a line 6 DL4 and a Maestro Discover Delay for use with my ambient improv band. Both are tons of fun. The Maestro in particular sounds dirty and fantastic.

Re: Mic pre in pedal form?
Thanks all! I had briefly debated trying to rig something with an altec 1588 octal mic preamp can. It seems like a lot of work though. I am running a jam man at the end of my chain. Thanks for reminding me that it has mic in! I would like to have access to all the pedals before it with a mic though....

Mic pre in pedal form?
I've started performing live drone and loop based ambient music. I'm playing guitar through a bunch of pedals and loopers (including a uher report L running tape loops) and want to add the option using my voice in the same chain. I'm trying to track down a mic pre in a pedal format that will run off...

Re: How to structure a multi-part session
If you have the option to leave things set up then doing full songs from start to finish is a great way to work but setting up and tearing down each session is a real time suck.
If "someone else's space" means your paying a day rate or rental then it's also going to eat up budget.

Re: MD-421 clip lock
yeah, I'm afraid my cheap "universal wireless mic clip" does the job and is not $50. https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/MY110--on-stage-stands-my110-unbreakable-dynamic-wireless-mic-clip Whomever I bought a couple ATM-25s from decided to remove the assembly that attaches to the mic stand, so I...

Re: rotating speaker alternative
Found an image of the Mark II version: Califone-stereo.jpg Awesome!!! It's not hard to find single rotor leslie baffles pulled from old home organs. They're basically a styrofoam version of your Mark 2 turntable leslie. I had one for a while and it did an ok job. There's no horn but you get some of...

Re: For themaya's is recording sessions straight thru,
I did this for bed tracking on my bands last record. Because I was engineering and playing I just let the computer roll once we were set up. I kept a copy of the main session master as is. Then when it was time to work on each song I made a session for each tune and imported all the takes of said tu...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....
My friends and I play a rag-tag live show every year or so... and we got tired of ganging-together 2 small mixers with a powered pa-head/mixer, so I went ahead and bought a used Mackie Onyx 1640 mixer... and damn! this is maybe the quietest mixer I've ever used. And the flexibility of the aux routi...

Re: SDCs for Choir & Orchestra & Audience recordings (sennheiser 80xx)
I can't speak to those specific mics but my experience recording audiences (usually for comedy but music too) is that a tight pattern gives me the best results. Hypercardiod is great, shotgun mics are even better. I put them on either side of the stage, behind the mains, ponting across the audience ...

Amazon is fun for cheapo pedals. Some are actually decent some aren't.

Re: A Soundtrack - Cassette 8 Tracking - 488 and 238.
I don't find them very different at all. That said, I was bypassing as much of the onboard mixer electronics as possible on the 488. The 238 takes all that stuff out of the equation right off the bat so the workflow is much easier. I don't think the tape section itself sounds any different
