Re: Mixing a band with a single, mono electric guitar

A subtle thing I learned here fairly recently is two mic's, a close one and a room mic pointed sideways. To that config I'll usually have the close a ribbon or dynamic, the room a ribbon or condensor. I'll usually put a compressor on the room. I like a dirtier pre up close, driving tranny, and a cle...

Re: Mixing a band with a single, mono electric guitar

Thanx! The first is a jizzmaster-type guitar into effect pedals with a single mic onna ProJr amp. The fecund is a The Paul guitar into a Tech 21 Cali pedal and a EBS reverb pedal, DI'd. Both songs are mixed thru a global compressor and reverb patch. There are kinda abbreviated notes in the "lyrics" ...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

Pigtronix Envelope Phaser - now this is what I been looking for! No severe volume shifts, great sound, totally controllable and useably subtle or deeply funky. Hadda a buy a 9@18v. converter to not have to use the wall wart when it's on my daisy-chain powered board, so that added US$20, but it's wo...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

BYOC Envelope Filter/Fixt wah - you build it and I'll mebbe buy it! Very nice on guitar, I'm considering the mod for bass. Or not. (I have the 5 knob BYOC multi-compressor, also, and it's a treat.) Re: Monitor dilemma

FWIW, I mainly use Tannoy 6.5 PBMII's, and standard Auratones. The first go about US$150 and the second mebbe US$200* on the Ebog. I feel no need, nor desire, for anything else. *(No need to buy the Hannett's .) On the cheap monitor tip (I know, OT), I can't speak highly enuff of the Monoprice 6" sp...

Re: What musical thang didja work on today/night?

Sound-checked some new (to me) pedals, including Ibanez 850 (thinner, brighter Muff), Russian Green Muff (thicker, darker = awesome) and BYOC Envelope/FixtWah (too subtle on bass but great on guitar).
