Re: Bass Plugins

That said - there are certainly better and worse instruments out there and some will amplify problems in technique more than others -.... Over the years I've turned more and more to the source sounds, having different instruments to use make such a fundamentally bigger difference than any plug in o...

Re: Using reverb to differentiate lead and backing vocals

Most times when I use reverb I spend a good amount of time getting the predelay "right." Especially reverb used for vocal. Lately, I use patches that I created in my DAW that seem to work well together. I typically put a touch of an opto compressor between 4 and 7@1 coming down 3dB, and then go int...

Groove Tubes' The Brick

About any Meek anything sounds great on bass, also.

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

Cuppla- 4 pedals: Ampeg Opto Bass compressor: nice and round and kinda spongy on bass, not as tight as the BBE non-mustache or even the Meek racks, I really like it on funk stuff where it makes pick playing sound ... funky. BBE Windowpane: a silicon distortion pedal that never sounds clean, all the ...

Re: Using reverb to differentiate lead and backing vocals

To simplify, I'll use a short small plate on the lead voc, a long big plate on the backing vox.

And I do variations on that theme ...

Re: Bass Plugins

FWIW, I do about 10% DI where I parallel a Meek VC3Q and a The Brick into a dbx160XT. The Meek is kinda the bottom (particularly with the compressor working hard) and the other track gives the dynamics and articulation. The other 90% of the time I use the same chain(s), but take a mic into the The B...

Re: Bass Plugins

"I don't have a bass amp, so I'm forced to record DI..."

Guitar amps work well for recording, esp. when paralleled w/ a DI.

Re: Cheap marshall clone

I have a Tiny terror but it sounds nothing like a Marshall, unless you use a Marshall-type pedal ... That said, awesome recording and practice amp and even cool for bass. But you can't really get up over a medium-volume drummer; for some reason my ProJr. is much louder, even vs. the TT plugged into ...

Re: power conditioners, i know i know i know

I use the same thing digitaldrummer linked, and similar units. They are right in my racks. I use some rattail extensions to be able to fit the occasional wallwart. No issues at all, and total convenience to turn on just the units I need on. Here's two, next to the arrows: https://live.staticflickr.c...

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....

Just took delivery on a used Aerodyne bass. Came set up with flats and incredible low action, de-tuned and the output jack disconnected. Had to solder the jack, and of course I did it backwards the first time, what made for extra buzz. Fixt that - what a really nice bass, P/J, beveled, light, fast a...
