Re: The bottom of the snare

I always mic the bottom. If I get tracks from somebody with no mic on the bottom I re-amp the snare track with a snare drum sitting on top of a Fender Pro Jr and mic the snares there. I almost always have an 1176 plug on the bottom snare fast attack/slowest release. now I just needa snare ... :twis...

Re: The bottom of the snare

 all y'all! That pic reminds me of seeing Iron Maiden circa 1980. Top o' th' page to ya's! You saw Maiden in 1980??? Holy Shit! What size of venue? Where? I'm embarrassed to say I've never seen Maiden or Priest. WTF is wrong with me? My wife has seen both a few times. !980, opening for, I thin...

Re: Getting motivated on your own music recording projects.

mebbe

but I disagree as to me (check my bandcamp link below - anything "Vlayman" is me with drum loops or pre-recorded tracks, and I go for the full-on rock band productions)

Re: Getting motivated on your own music recording projects.

another thing that always helps me is a drum track to play to for occasional 2-man jams but also for writing I have a cuppla-3 drum pedals - even easier than drum machines the S-Drum is good for from scratch, and the Trio is usable; my fave is the lesser Beat Buddy I'll typically run that thru a pow...

... Last week I wrote 4 usable progressions in about an hour. I know they're usable because I've already recorded three.

Re: Getting motivated on your own music recording projects.

I change or try new instruments (just bought a cheap 3-legged steel guitar), or amps, or pedals ... Gear, for me, is an inspiration. I like tracking with one bass, and then a different one, using the same chain. For example, yesterday was 40th Anniv Squier jazz into my PF50t, Brick, dbx160XT paralle...

Re: RIP Steve Albini

I never met him more than "hi" but saw Big Black back in the day, heard a ton of stories.

Besides a great producer of many of my fave recordings, he was quite the character - I liked his food blogging, as well.

RIP.

Re: New DAW?

The problem is the program requires a serial number, and it apparently contains an expiration code.

I get it installed fine to "trial", but can't fully authorize it.

QED, I'll keep running it on my old XP Pro macheen until I learn Reaper, I reckon.
