I don't hear a whole lotta difference, as said

Re: The bottom of the snare
The only "mods" I did to my Pro,Jr. (tweed) was to change out the speaker (can't remember what, I think a better Jensen) and put a 12AU7 in the pre because I use pedals for dirt and like the clean sound I get without 'em. Also, there's some screw in the head frame that I recall is like 1/8" too long...

Re: The bottom of the snare
I reca roscoenyc as a long-time proponent of The Pro,Jr., using them ( a pair, I think?) on stage with Earle. I think his might have been goosed, as, I believe, were Jeff Beck's. Lovely amp, awesome pedal platform but good sounding on it's own when ya want that just-at-breakup sound, it's perhaps le...

Re: 1073's... Real deal or one of the many clones?
8) I will say it is the mostest cleanest, stream-lined looking piece in my racks. Of my <$1k pre's (and they all are), it sounds closes to the ISA1, a little meatier in the low mids, not as bright; the PM1000 is a fave on guitar amps (I alternate between a UA710, the ISA1, a UA110, and a Altec 1589b...

I really can't recall, but you might have.digitaldrummer wrote: ↑Sat Apr 13, 2024 2:54 pmdid I rack your PM1000? I can't remember anymore. I did so many back then (10-15+ years now)... I still have one that I kept and it's cool for certain things.

FWIW, and on the inexpensive end (as always), I have a Yamaha PM1000 pre racked by someone here, really like it on guitars.
And the ISA One is said to be a Neve design - lotsa options and it's wonderful with ribbons, too.
No idear how close they are to 1073's.

Re: Latest gear you've acquired.....
Bought a Slick tele from guitarfetish. It's my second one - they are heavy as hell, but sound great, look cool, have brass keys and a slick nut, are distressed, and they have best volume control of any guitar I have - love playing it into a gained-up pedal/amp. As far as guitars go in my current ban...
