I have learned... ... that the size of the recording space (or amount of sound treatment) is determined by the sound source. The louder or deeper (in frequency) the instrument is, the more air space or sound treatment is needed in a room. ...that I have been recording my tracks too hot. Thanks to t...

depending on where I'm working, I use either an RME Fireface 800 or a MOTU pci system. Lately, I've been using Seagate USB2.0 harddrives. Got 'em at Office Max. 250gig for $79 and 320 gig for $99. I use Cubase SX and DP5 in both studios. Both computers are dual 2.0ghz Mac g5's. Thank you. It's time...

Well, as far as I am concerned, there you have it. 1) When you are using an interface to record, you are also using that interface to play back. You need to send/receive simultaneously. I've used a USB interface to playback and record simultaneously. 2) When you are using a drive to record, you are...

So just copying the vocal track and effecting it and eq'ing it different is not a good method? I don't know if it's a good method. I've tried that technique with vocals and guitar and personally, it never sounded quite right to my ears. To me, you lose something...you lose the aspect of performance...

Nothing really makes me angry anymore, musically speaking. I guess I'm just disheartened at the music industry in general. Or to sweep broader, the entertainment/media complex. It's largely a crock of shit driven and mixed by marketing think tanks. Recurring formulas of what sells have been found......

and yeah the headphones on the guitar is ace as well. *takes notes* Yeah, that's awesome. A couple of years ago, I kept noticing this odd sound on my kick drum when I would play back tracks...as if there were some string/reverb on it. I have some acoustic guitars hanging from a wall opposite of the...

Yeah. That technique has worked for me as well. I don't know why it works for me. It just does.

" I've beeb a Lips fan since the mid 80's, but had to leave most thier shows during that period as they used strobe lights and the flashing would induce panic attacks in me. Clouds Taste Metallic is my absolute favorite. No doubt. Not only are the songs/arrangements on that album awesome but the sounds they got were amazing, especially the drum sound. I double plus agree. Except, I really do like Yoshimi quite a lot. I know hardcore fans dismiss this album, but I think...

Any connections with Dr. Who notwithstanding, this article is probably a bit more accurate in regards to CD-R longevity: http://www.warehousephoto.com/How_Permanent_is_your_CD-R.htm By no stretch of the imagination are CD-Rs permanent. The best way to archive digital is analog and the second best w...

Re: Records...

Anyone still have records? Only a few hundred. Me too. I burn cds for the car and stuff, but I much prefer vinyl. I wish every record company would offer vinyl versions of music. http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/question487.htm Still though, it seems that by in large, analog recording equipment...

I'm not really into this style of music, but it sounds really good. Everything is mixed well to my ears (listened to the first three tracks). Nicely balanced, imho.

Re: Yeah, in his basement

I think that's a kick that the album, which was presented as a demo to the record company, was rejected even though it sounded great due to the fact that Tom Scholz recorded it himself in his project studio. I believe that all the band did was to dump the tracks that Tom had recorded onto a 24 trac...
