Hi Pass Filter settings?

Can anyone recommend a good, safe point to set my HPF for underground pop type stuff, with no electronic drums/keys etc...? I am monitoring on Tannoy Proto-J's, and I can't really hear a differance if I set it below 120 Hz, but I don't want to be shooting myself in the foot. On the other hand, I don...

everyone switched from psychedelic drugs to coke Might have something to do with. But since I was born in '73 I always use that as the year things went to shit and blame it on my birth. Bitter irony, I come into the world, music goes to shit. Okay, there has been a billion great records since 1974....

Hey, if you can get good, usable tracks on your first or second take then you are way ahead of the game. If you are like me, your best takes are still not all that great. These are the things that have helped me: Practice singing the song, without music. Break it down into pieces, and sing the inter...

Ya know, everyone always says the song is the most important thing, (and I agree). And if there is one great Tape Op Ethic, it is "using your Ears, to make the most of the gear which you actually have to work with. So you think that there would be a lot more stuff on this list. But in the end, if yo...

Well yeah, but doen't reading about this stuff make you WANT to go write and record? Maybe try a differant mic placement, or buy a Fairchild Limiter?

Yeah, it seemed like it sounded a lot better than I thought it did. Maybe less slick and "pro" but with more character and texture.

Of course the smart people on this board are saying "duh!" right now, I was aiming this post at the other home recordists (I cannot bring myself to say "hobbyist") out there.

got the wild urge to go back into the attic, and try remixing my latest album, using some of the knowledge I have stolen, um, I mean gleaned from these great engineers. Wow! The first thing I did was turn off the compressors, and EQ. (I use the Yamaha AW2816, which has a discrete dynamic & EQ for ea...

I am currently reading "behind the glass". A lot of the old school english guys were of the mindset that when the tapes left their studio they were completely finished, and wanted the mastering engineer to only do a "flat transfer", with no EQ. One thing you have without any sort of mastering, thoug...

Dude, I think you are too cool for Cheyenne. Maybe you should take yr cash and move to someplace with a music scene. Denver and SLC probably have kick ass punk clubs, and a lot of musicians to pool yr talent with.

That weird, built in mic compression? I love that sound. If you look on ebay you can get cheap Electret Condensors (powered by a single AA battery) that have that kind of sound, and not have to figure out how to line out of the cheapo tape recorder.

Dang, I love that sound!

Wow, that sounds like a lot of fun! What do you mean, "you already have background recorded? Are you like a one man band kinda deal? I would definately think you should drop these prerecorded backgrounds in as soon as you can, at the pro studio, because trying to match stuff up later will probably n...
