Re: Oktava ribbon = mean looking flyers
But it's in Charlottesville. Yes, we are from Richmond. When did you live here....? Hey Craig! Hoping to see you at this show. How you been? I've been good, thanks, Erik. Yeah, I should be there. Excellent flyer as well. The Freedom Haters - my newish band, will be playing (or i should say debuting...

Re: earwax candles and other witchcraft!!!
I just wanna chime in and say that I tried the Debrox thing last week. I thought my ears could use a little cleaning. Simple maintenance. Anyway, eversince I did my one ear, I've felt like it's totally clogged with oil. That shit is not coming out! I'm actually seeing a doc this afternoon about this...

Re: Yay. Close the libraries!!!
I owe a lot to Libraries. Not just all the free ka-nowledge. I worked in libraries for ten freakin years. Got me through college and paid the bills when I was a musician in Boston. i was kinda bummed that I had to leave the Library here at UVa but the pay was impossible to live off of. Also, believe...

Re: Deos anyone else feel like they are gonna flip out?
Absolutely. Yeah, fuck... Need to take more St. Johns Wort or something. That stuff isn't good for you. It's pretty much been panned by the research. No man. It's not always panned. Some good things have been said about it. I think it's helped me in a very subtle way. Of course, I'm not clinically ...

Re: for anyone who has non-music jobs
I stand corrected. Is that Drake biography any good? It's wasn't awful but not that great either. I suppose the more fanatical you are about Drake, as I was -- and still to a point, the more interesting it'll be. It went into a lot of the relationships he had with the other British folkers. I have ...

Re: for anyone who has non-music jobs
What about Charles Ives, a heavy hitting insurance exec by day and one of the major innovators in composition during his off hours? I once heard that he INVENTED estate planning. Bach had a day job too, as a musician though. Nick Drake was a computer programmer. Bad example though, if you're worrie...

Re: for anyone who has non-music jobs
Yeah, I totally don't wanna be here. I get very bored and daydream about song choruses and screenplay ideas all day. It's kind of ironic considering I work for an "entertainment" company writing computer games.

Re: pete townsend
humorless? WTF? The Who "Sell Out." Fucking funny as hell. Great record. Totally innovative. Totally unpretentious -- well, as unpretentious as you can get for an art rock record, but you know...it sort of made fun of the whole pop band thing. Made it aware of itself. Pop, you know. And he who's nev...

Re: Suggest me an All-In-One Digital Recorder unit
I have an older VF-16. I sorta switch off or combine it with my 388. Anyway, I think it's a great all-in-one machine. I've gotten some surprising positive feedback from people. The sound quality isn't bad at all. Really really easy to use. Mixer is ok. Preamps are really nothing to speak of, not awf...

Re: Great Sounds with Limited Gear?
Yeah, I grew up on Sebadoh's lofi sounds. Weed Forrestin rules. Slider, your recording sounds good. I'm always pumped when I hear a quality recording on a 388. Gives me hope. Nice drum sound. And the direct bass isn't bad either, though it sorta disapears when the big drums come in -- but maybe that...

Re: Great Sounds with Limited Gear?
The other day I found a very old Tascam 388 recording of my first band. It has so much character. Having limited gear can be the best thing sometimes. We had a 421 a 57, a couple micro limiters and a micro verb. My brother had some old crappy drums in the garage that we used. They had paper towels ...

Re: English as a Major...
I know what you mean, my friend. I mean, for crying out loud, I'm as unschooled as you get as far as music theory and technic (and the english language -- isn't it obvious?). But, like bobert said, I wasn't talking about technic, just the art and the ideas that come before you because chances are, t...

Re: English as a Major...
Yeah, I'm a little bit in agreement with Rob on this one. I have a BFA in Creative Writing, Lit. and Publishing. I think i went to the only school you can actually get a BFA in writing (as opposed to a BA in English with a concentration in c. writing). Whatever. Point is, I took a lot of creative wr...
