Re: Saved!: this movie looks hilarious!
I think this is a pretty accurate illustration of a lot of American Christianity though; is that the church has this great subject matter (Jesus and the New and Old Testament) but it's so out of touch with culture, (and has a culture which is large enough that those inside it think it's the only cu...

Re: Saved!: this movie looks hilarious!
That totally reminds me of when in youth groups the leaders, desperate to be relevant and hip, would go off on "Y'know, kids, Jesus, he was pretty cool. He is pretty cool. He's a pretty rad dude! And he wants to be your friend!" Meanwhile the kids are making out with each other in the back. If that...

Re: Saved!: this movie looks hilarious!
Why is not secularism considered a religion? It could be. Just like hockey or recording or vegetarianism. Dictionary.com lists the following as one def. of religion. A cause, principle, or activity pursued with zeal or conscientious devotion. I like to add that a religion is anything that one consc...

Re: Why can't I hear the drums anymore in today's music??!
Wing, I first noticed this when I was like 11 or 12, listening to Metallica (not kidding!). I thought "the snare drum loses the 'oomph' when all the guitars and bass are playing, but when they're not, the 'oomph' is there". I remember thinking how very different it sounded and felt to play a snare d...

I claim Grover Cleveland, not of my own choosing either. It's just the way it has to be.

Re: Living in Austin , TX
All I know is that I spent three days there in March and saw four musical acts, all top notch. I looked in the "Recording Studios" section in the phone book - many, many studios. There were over 70 clubs listed in the music rag hosting live music regularly (if not every night). It made a huge impres...

Re: $33,000+ preamps don't make a good recording
Spectacular gear like that has a funny way of showing a person just how much they suck. True in most or all disciplines. I've not attended a school that offers recording degrees. I'm at a school that offers courses in Electro-acoustic composition, theatre sound design, and electrical engineering wi...

Re: Hearing live music helps me make better records... Discu
We can talk about the best mics and pre's and what room sounds better for the rest of our lives but the real truth is that good music makes good records. A good performer with good songs could record to a wax cylinder and it would still be good. I agree with what's been said so far. Also, if you've...

Re: Thoughts from Tape Op Con
And it was funny seeing Tony Visconti get all bent out of shape about the PA feedback. Chris Garges I'm assuming the PA fedback during a panel? Talk about pressure for the local sound guys who have to do this convention. (I'm imagining a guy hanging his head over a beer in a bar somewhere ...) JZ

Re: Duel twins feeding back at low volume
Ok, go to radioshack. Buy a single 1/4" mono (female) to two 1/4" mono (female) adapter. That should do the trick. Plug your guitar into the single female 1/4" end. plug the two cables from the two amps into the two female adapters. ...and whatever you do, do not read pages 50-64 of the latest Tape...

Re: anyone ever miss the mystery of recorded music?
Music has never lost it's magical element to me. My own music included. I understand the initial question here, but just do not have that same feeling. I am fortunate enough to have had the same experience. In addition to the small knowledge of recording and production that I have, I've studied the...

Re: wow, just got a pair of zildjian a custom hi hats.
My question: Is it possible to find out (other than by ear, because its hard with cymbals atleast for me) the tuning of cymbals? Just curious. What do you mean by "the tuning of the cymbals"? Are you wondering about the fundamental pitch of the cymbal? This information may not be very useful to you...

Voice reverb placement?
OK, just got done with another solo voice with piano accompaniment project. This time I created reverb with loudspeaker playing in a reverberant room at the bottom of a stair case, with a mic at the top of the stairs. Worked much better than the opposite configuration (which I tried last week). NOW,...
