Re: Walter Sear makes me cry

My take is that regardless of whether or not d/l'ing music has anything to do with people not buying cd's, it's DEFINITELY not because they sound bad to most consumers. Most consumers don't think cd's sound bad, nor do they care if some old dude tells them it sounds crappy - I certainly don't. Sound...

Re: Broadcast Radio Lobby fighting XM and Sirius

Very interesting.

Speaking of tiny slices of the RF spectrum, wouldn't it be nice if wireless mic systems weren't crammed into tge same spot as broadcast TV?

Re: The Psychology of Recording?

Are you recording live with the band, or seperately? One thing thing to keep in mind - Keep it simple! Feel comes before everything else! It's much better to omit a tricky lick that doesn't QUITE feel right and maintain a solid feel. (I know I try to get away with alot more live, when things can get...

Re: Who Is SoundScene?

I haven't been around here long enough to know if it's someone from Tape Op, but I'm certain it's just someone jerking us around. And doing a fine and entertaining job of it, too! A faily well-thought-out character, and consistent. However consistently too ridiculous to be believable.

Re: cheeziness of music thru the ages

Woke up in the middle of the night last night thinking about this "cheesiness" discussion. Two thoughts: 1. Think about the cheesy icon of opera... The fat lady with a spear and a Viking helmet. That image is from a Wagnerian character (I forgot which one). Anyway, that character was certainly not c...

Mic Cases?

Wasn't able to find anything by searching... Where can I find stock mic cases? What about something designed for a large capsule? I'm considering making a stereo version of the Tape Op mic, and it would be kind of cool to have it in a single nice looking case. My original idea is to have the capsule...

Re: cheeziness of music thru the ages

For all - Are cheesiness and quality mutually exclusive? Could a cheesy piece of music be of high quality? (The answers to this question should just go to show that without defining all of these terms, this discussion is going to take us around in circles...). JZ Wow - I didn't know I had the invis...

Re: cheeziness of music thru the ages

Postmodernism sucks. Most art today sucks because of the prevalence of this postmodern attitude. Very objective observation. Oh wait, I meant NOT objective. Do us a favor and give your definition of art. Sorry, just had to get that off my chest. It's hard to go through a graduate program with peopl...

Re: cheeziness of music thru the ages

Cheese is timeless. That which is cheesy was cheesy, is cheesy, and shall evermore be cheesy. Cheese is immediately recognizable, whether it was made yesterday or 40 years ago. Well, you're right if the span of 'evermore' is limited to your lifetime. I think you're right in this way - for the most ...

You're right - Good thing I didn't actually say that!

That would be bad - Good thing I didn't do that either!

Re: cheeziness of music thru the ages

I would suggest that cheesiness does not stick. Study of the history of western music (of which I've done PLENTY, maybe too much!) shows that sometimes music that is passed by in its time as irrelevant, lowly, intellectually insulting, even blasphemous, or just plain bad, only to later be discovered...
